Summary: The best and most lucid introductory computer book I've read
Review: This book is an excellent source of information for the computer neophyte and not so neophyte. It explains and illustrates the components of a PC and how they work together with remarkable clarity. I have used it as a text in a continuing education class I teach, "PC's, Know Before You Buy", with great success. I frequently recommend it to people intersted in purchasing a PC so that they will be well educated consumers.

Summary: A good school mate.
Review: I bought the book because it was listed in a subject's bibliography; in fact, it was the book he most recommended. I found it very useful, and most of all, very easy to follow. All the information was there to grasp at first reading.

Summary: In the Media
Review: "But if knowledge is the light of the world, then the contents of the 292-page book 'How Computers Work,' which comes with a complementary CD-ROM, will certainly illuminate much about the inner workings of today's home and business computers--without requiring the user to look under the hood.... In the face of this book-and-CD-ROM combination, the computer might have a tough time holding on to the mystery of its inner workings."--THE NEW YORK TIMES

Summary: An essential book for anyone who love computer
Review: The newest edition of this book is outstanding. Ron makes the hardest concept of computers so easy to understand. I ran across this book at my local library, whtich had the first edition of the book that was printed in 1993. From then on, have gotten a hold of all the other sequential edition, and this editon(3rd editon) is one to own. It covers almost everything the inquisitive laymen wants to know what is going on behind the humming sound of the fan. Personally, it is sort of a visually dictionary for the computer. Highly recommended.

Summary: a great visual representation of how computers work.
Review: I use How Computers work as one of my resources in my Computer Servicing course. I found it useful because sometimes you get a student who needs a visual representation of whats going on inside rather that a text description. This book stands out for its clear and beautiful diagrams and clear descriptions.

Summary: An absolute must have for anyone with a computer!
Review: This is a GREAT book. I have used this book to explain our home computer to my family. With this book, the kid's have begun to understand why it is important to know everything you can about the equipment we use today. A great way to get almost anyone interested in understanding "technology" in an easy to read (and picture) format. I recommend this book to all my friends who ask me to help them computer shop.
