Rating: Summary: Possibly the most readable computer book ever. Review: A great reference, with the best introduction to FoxPro and VFP I've read. Not the best book for those new to OOP or VFP. True, they claim that this is not their audience - they're dedicated to the hard-core hackers. But some more focus on OOP application development, with their unique perspective, would be very helpful to not-yet-hardcore hackers like me.
Rating: Summary: A Complete Reference + Good Tips + Humor Review: A huge book (Probably the biggest computer book I own).If you are serious about Visual Foxpro you need to have this book. Don't expect to learn VFP from this book (It would be a bit like trying to learn English from a dictionary). Syntax of each VFP command is explained with good examples. This book completely fills the documentation void and goes a lot further. (If you don't like the book you could use it for a coffee table.) I only wish I could take a year off to absorb everything in it. Contrary to Author's coments it is not just a reference it can be read cover to cover.

Rating: Summary: An excellent reference for the serious VFP developer. Review: A must buy for any serious professional VFP developer. It is well worth the investment. And the companion .CHM guide (downloadable from Hentzenwerke after you buy the book) is one of the best I've seen. Well done and indexed. I keep a shortcut to it on the desktop for easy reference!
Rating: Summary: A bad copy of VFP documentation Review: Actually this book is Language Reference of VFP.If you are a professional developer buy another book.
Rating: Summary: Not so "Fox-y" without the CD ROM Review: Before buying...you may want to know that the CD ROM has to be ordered separately or you can download the info from a URL included in the book. Just thought you'd like to be warned. Otherwise...no major complaints.
Rating: Summary: Awesome VFP 6.0 Reference Review: Every Visual FoxPro programmer should has this book at their desk. I read an earlier review which gave it a 1 star. Well give them a break. This book has excellent content!! The sayings and quotes are to keep you alert ( or if you read the whole book, awake). This is THE BEST Visual FoxPro book on THE PLANET!!
Rating: Summary: Needs more info on function keys Review: Good book, but neglects the importance of time saving function keys or ON KEY LABELs.
Rating: Summary: The Must-Have reference volume for VFP 6.0 Review: Hacker's Guide is a definite requirement for any VFP developer's library. The coverage of the language is unrivaled by any other book, and Ted and Tamar give you the real low down (including bug documentation). The CHM file is set up as my VFP help file.
Rating: Summary: Hacker's Guide to Visual FoxPro 6.0 Review: I am new to Visual Foxpro after many years of using Foxpro for DOS 2.0 and I thought that this book would help me learn Visual Foxpro.
The authors state in the beginning of the book that if you are looking to learn Visual Foxpro from a beginners level then this book isn't for you. The authors state that the book is an intermediate level book.
The book is mainly a glorified help menu like what you would find if you clicked on the help tab at the top of a program. The book didn't help me in trying to learn Visual Foxpro. I needed a book that would explain the concepts of Object-Oriented-Programming and this book didn't do it for me.
If you already know Visual Foxpro then perhaps the information in this book might come in handy, otherwise don't waste your money.
I wish that I had known this before I spent my money on a used copy of this book. Hopefully my review will keep someone else from making the same mistake.
