Rating: Summary: A great resource Review: I use this book as a text book in a master's level college class. It is a great resource for the students!!
Rating: Summary: Got a Mac? You need this book! Review: I've been reading Mac Secrets since the third edition and it is an absolutely indispensible resource. I recommend this book to _every_ Mac owner, beginner to the expert alike. The included searchable PDF file is even more of a Godsend; now I can take Mac Secrets with my PowerBook without adding any weight! BUY IT NOW!
Rating: Summary: A page-turner! Review: I've been using Macs since the first little putty-colored marvel, and I still find myself reading every word. A terrific compendium of all the stuff you wish could remember when you need it!
Rating: Summary: The ONLY Mac book for me Review: If I could have only two books on my desk it would be this one and a space for the 6th edition.
Rating: Summary: I want to give 6 stars Review: It's a Pogue - enough said! Sorry Joseph - you rule too!!
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Worth shouting about. Review: Mac owners who have reached the point where they know how to move a mouse, open a file and all the other basics should run, not walk and snaffle this book from Amazon.com(Well, at least pull Amazon down from Favorite Places menu.)I had given up on IDG after the wretched MAC OS8.5FOR DUMMIES, but they have redeemed themselves with this masterpiece. Enjoy this witty & informative book. If possible, I would rate this much higher. Hundreds, thousands of stars. :-) Eileen
Rating: Summary: Pogue and Schorr are GREAT Review: Mac Secrets is not only extremely informative, but it is so well written you will browse through it just for the fun of it. From the amazing secrets in the book to the software-packed included CD, there is no reason not to buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Best Mac Book I have in my library Review: Pogue and Schorr have really done it with this book!! Many things I have accepted as facts, but never really understood, are now clearly explained so that should something go wrong with my computer,I can do my own trouble shooting and not have to fight with various company's "so called" Tech Support. The big problem that David Pogue and Joseph Schorr have now is to write something better than this book. With the aid of this book,I have already solved three minor and 2 major problems [one very annoying modem problem] that have been bugging me for quite some time without trying to squeeze help out of various Tech Support entities. This book deserves more than 5 stars. It is a real winner. Every Mac owner needs one in addition to Macs For Dummies and More Macs For Dummies!!!!
Rating: Summary: Buy This Book Review: Simply put: If you have a Mac, you must have this book. Period. Insightful, accurate, humorous, and possessing the rare ability to explain technical issues in common, every-day english that even my mother can understand. The bundled CD-ROM is a boon as well, containing hundreds of dollars of (legal) commercial software (REAL, not demos!) as well as useful shareware -- plus the entire book in a PDF file, great for PowerBook users!
Rating: Summary: MacWorld MacSecrets 6th edition Review: The book is great as far as it goes. It has only general information on Mac OS X. The authors promise additional "unlimited edition" chapters; however, the website where these chapters are supposed to be available no longer exists. Hungry Minds publisher was bought by Wiley and Sons, but the website was not acquired by them.
For OS 9 and previous systems the book can't be beat.
