Summary: no depth at all
Review: After waiting months for this book to come out I was extremely disappointed. It is totally superficial with no depth and detail at all. This is not a power user guide, this is a very shallow quickstart guide. The insight is limited to "to use X, select X in the pulldown menu and click return". It's that bad.

I suppose that if you have never used a computer program before, this book might be helpful.

Summary: A helpful guide, could be better...
Review: Certainly, Eric Grebler knows his stuff. On the plus side, this is the only book on DP4 available in print (so far), other than the manual, and it does give some added insight into the Digital Performer 4 Application. The downside is that this book is printed on matte, off-white paper in black & white with all illustrations shown as tiny complete screen images, (which often suffer from their diminitive size and lack of contrast and color to be read easily as illustrations-having a magnifying glass handy will certainly help). This is a positive companion to the MOTU manual. It demonstrates the basic step-by-step mechanics of DP4 and is worth the investment.

Summary: Not worth $13.00
Review: I waited for a DP4 reference book, and this is not even worth the 13 dollars I paid for it. Click on the record button to record and the stop button to...oh shoot what page was that on?

Summary: SO SO - not very many tips or tricks
Review: I was really looking forward to this book. I was very dispointed that the book did not EVEN Mention the Drum Editor or Polar! The book did have some other useful lessons. I would have like to have seen more learning/instruction on creating loops and editing drums..

Summary: This book takes the complex and makes it simple
Review: If you have any experience with Digital Performer than you know that it can be a quite daunting application. This book is awesome. It give step by step visual instructions on how to accomplish common tasks in Digital Performer. I would reccomend it to anyone who has purchased Digital Performer.

Summary: digital performer 4 ignite
Review: Not Impressed. The information included is self-evident. I am, however, very impressed with the "ableton live 2.0 Power" book. The Ignite series seems to be very, as one other reader mentioned, heavy on the screenshots and blank space. I am under the impression that the author is doing his best to pump out these manuals at a rapid pace and quickly takes screenshots of every obvious command, making for a very pretty, yet trite, picture. I am returning the book and have pre-ordered the digital performer POWER book, which at 400 pages, will hopefully have something written about POLAR, one of the best features yet which is not even mentioned in the book. VST-i plugins are also not mentioned at all. VST plugins are not discussed AT ALL. How is this possible? Is this a training manual? It reminds me of Pangloss, the mentor of Candide, who tells us that in this, the best of all possible worlds, we must accept everything as being for the best. I however, do not agree with this philosophy of Liebnitz and must claim that this work is an insult to my money and my musical intelligence. I am also from Toronto, and I suggest that the author cleans up his act in order to do justice to our fair city! I was looking for erudition, yet there is no translatio studii here, Erasmus would be ashamed.

Summary: poor
Review: Nothing more than a five page 'quick start' guide that has been shamelessly padded out with gallons of white space and extra large screen shots so as to turn it from a pamphlet into a book. Useless.

Summary: Buy this book if you have money to burn...
Review: That is the only thing that will get ignited. This book starts off slow and never gets out of first gear. It is a compendium of "Pull down THIS menu and click HERE!" There is not a scrap of advice or insight that deserves the excitement of the word IGNITE within the pages of this shameless hack writing job. Unfortunately, this is one of the few titles available for DP4. Propellerhead's REASON is so much better covered. I purchased this book solely because I am a book junkie. If you are short on dough, don't follow my example. The Quick Start Guide that comes with DP4 is equal to this book. In closing, I hope that the INS and customs is alert to Eric Grebler's scam and disallows him entry into the United States from Canada.

Summary: Great Starters Guide
Review: The manual that comes with Digital Performer is a ridiculous encylopedia that's really confusing. This book is great because it gets you up and running quickly. I reccomend it to anyone who isn't an expert in Digital Performer.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Only Scratches The Surface
Review: The material covered in the book only scratches the surface of the application. I thumbed my way through half the book before I found something of value. For example, there are sections explaining preference options and how one clicks to activate them, but yet does not explain the options! Very superficial.

As an example on how to do an excellent book that is a fantastic companion to the program manual, read any of Peachpit Press' books - in particular, the one for Final Cut Pro 4. Digital Performer 4 is a powerful and complex program and deserves better. The material covered herein is a glorified "help" menu!
