Rating: Summary: Great Companion Guide Review: This book is great for the beginner. I'm new to Digital Performer and found the manual that came with the program to be intimidating. This book was very visual and took me step by step through the basics. It got me up and running a lot faster then if I only had the manual.
Rating: Summary: Worthless Book Review: This book is worthless. Its step-by-step instructions are filler and fluff. For instance, a three-step instruction on how to select a soundbite takes up a whole page.Step one: Place cursor over phrase (with picture) Step two: Hold down mouse button (with picture) Step three: Release mouse button (with picture) Ridiculous! It tells how to use plugins, but a good book should provide more theory. When teaching how to use a compressor, it should talk about threshold, attack, release and appropriate settings for vocals vs. drums. This book does nothing of the sort. A COMPLETE waste of money and the worst book I have ever purchased in my life. Shame on the author!
Rating: Summary: If you bought the program, you won't need this book! Review: This has to be one of the worst book purchases I have ever made, and I paid the full retail 19.95 for it. I am the first to admit that DP4 is a very complex program, and I was looking for a book that would help me discover some of the more advanced features, but this book never gets past explaining the most basic of basic features. The graphics are page-filling, the type is large and, most annoying of all, the text does not explain anything you can't get from reading the "Getting Started" book which comes with DP4. I admit, I'd like to see a good after-market guide to Digital Performer, but this book is NOT IT! Pass it by if you value your money...
Rating: Summary: Good Book To Learn DP Review: Tough crowd here! :-) This book is a good overview of Digital Performer, and will get you past newby into intermediate level quite well. If you haven't used DP, it's a very deep program that has a high learning curve (as do all heavy sequencer progs). This book will help get you going and getting the basics under control. If you've bought the program, then you're no doubt finding yourself scratching your head at times with the reference manual. This book fits perfectly between the MOTU Getting Started Guide and the Reference Manual. Nicely done graphics, good if you're a visual learner.
