Summary: HTML Deprecated
Review: This book is not bad, but by the author's own admission, much of what is being explained is deprecated. The book is quite good at telling you what NOT to use, but keeps referring the reader to Chapt 16 (CSS). Unfortunately the CSS chapter does not show all the correct ways to implement the deprecated features (use of justification - left, right, center - in tables, for example).

One nice feature in the book was the "Widely Supported" yes/no indicator for HTML syntax in the Appendix A.

I think the author should have spent more time on non-deprecated usage of HTML and CSS, instead of saying "Here's how to do this, but don't do it this way." This book is probably useful to someone who is trying to READ older HTML code, but is not so useful for someone trying to write new HTML code.

In summary, although it has useful information surrounding the use of HTML, this book should probably be re-titled to "HTML Deprecated", or "Reading Deprecated HTML Code", or alternatively needs a much-expanded section on use of CSS.

Summary: Bringing the web to the masses...
Review: This book should be enough to get you going in web design. Within a single day, I was creating very basic web pages - so it can be done. Sure, I knew a little about computers going into it, but it was my first time trying to speak to my machine in anything other than "point-and-click" fashion.

What I like the best about this book is the fact that they take you from the beginning and get you thinking about how you should really go about the designing your site. They show examples of excellent and poor website design and talk about what makes a site navigable. This general approach becomes much more focused as you progress through the book.

You've got more basic HTML in this book than you'll know what to do with, BUT if you get a real handle on the beginner stuff, you can delve into some of the more advanced material. Dynamic HTML, JavaScript, XML, basic Perl and CGI are all included.

I got to admit it, I haven't progressed to the point where I have used all of the concepts in this book. It's comforting to know that I have the tools at my disposal when I'm ready, though. For now, seeing as how I've learned the basics, all I need are the reference charts and quickie quides that are posted throughout. This book is pretty darn cheap for all of its comprehensiveness, so you owe it to yourself to purchase the darned thing. Several friends of mine that are much more familiar with HTML conventions than myself, have riffled through my copy of this book and run out to buy it themselves. That kind of response tells me that I made a sound decision. Well, that and the fact that I now maintain several portions of our internal webpages at work and people ask ME questions about HTML. Yeehaw! Happy building!

Summary: Great resource!
Review: This is an excellent book that is full of information on all of the major Web Design topics: HTML, CSS, XML, CGI, etc. I use this book as the main textbook in my Advanced Web Design course. This should be a part of everyone's professional library.

Summary: Extremely good HTML BOOK
Review: This is by far the most complete html book i have ever read. I highly recommend it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great value - admirable depth and breadth
Review: This is hard to believe; but this book can be so cheap but it tells you so much about the latest HTML. Its writing skill is suitable for all levels of readers, from beginner to expert. My only complaint is that this book is printed on poor-quality paper.

Summary: Great value - admirable depth and breadth
Review: This is incredible value because of its price and because of its coverage - it has admirable depth and breadth. It's probably the only HTML book you need to give you good foundation knowledge. It then gives you a basic overview of what you need to learn in the future to become an advanced web site creator (like Javascript, CGI, and Perl). At times I found some concepts difficult to understand, and had to go to another source for an alternative explanation, but that was seldom and probably to be expected from time-to-time given the subject matter. Sometimes re-reading an earlier chapter was enough to clear up any confusion. I was very impressed (and surprised) to discover some topics, like web page design, were covered just as well in "HTML Complete" as more specialised books.

Summary: A Complete HTML Reference
Review: This is the best HTML book I've ever read! This book tell you everything you should know abut HTML. It also tell us a bit of ASP, CSS, JavaScript, XML, XHTML, DHTML, Perl and CGI. At the end there's the Master Reference. The Master Reference covers every single tag in HTML. I recommend this book for those who want to learn HTML and building website.

Summary: Don't buy it if you want to be a 'code cruncher'.
Review: Well, let me tell you, I AM a professional programmer. But, more importantly, I am a less than pleased customer. I refer you to page eight, the end of the first paragraph under the heading 'Learning HTML': "But please rest assured that in this book we have absolutely no intention of molding you into a code cruncher!" (exclamation by publisher). Now, I ask you; why else would I buy a book named HTML COMPLETE, a 1000+ page book touted on the back cover to,"contain the essentials you need to know about creating and modifying Web pages with HTML." So, why three stars and not one? The book's not half bad (note lack of enthusiasm). As long as you can stomach multiple advertisements for Microsoft's FrontPage Express, an "easy-to-use word processor for creating HTML documents." So far I've counted four glowing references to this 'alternative' tool, and I'm only on the thirty-fourth page.

Summary: Very Complete reference book.
Review: What has over 1000 pages covering every aspect of HTML web page design? Sybex has brought to you a perfect companion for every web designer of all skill levels with the HTML Complete book and all for und $25.00.

Laid out in a manner that starts you from the beginning of page layout all the way through XML and DHTML. Throughout the book the author provides tips and notes to help you avoid pitfalls and traps.

The book seems to be written to the lowest common level, this ensures that everyone can work with the book and that no assumptions of skill sets are made, my students found this to be very useful in the designing of their websites.

Another thing I liked about the book was that way the author eases you into XHTML, DHTML and XML. The learning curve is tailored for those without experience and this too makes it easy to grasp the material.

Having worked with web pages for over 5 years in both the professional and classroom, I found several things that I could use and a few new things that I had never seen or tried before.

Overall this book gave me everything I was looking for in HTML and web page creation.
