Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent beginner's book
Review: I have read most of the first 800 pages so far, and in just six days. The book is very readable. The topics flow smoothly so I seldom got confused in spite of the depth of material. Appears quite comprehensive, has enabled me to create queries and forms. No major complaints, and much more readable and helpful than another book on Access 97 I tried. The index is thorough, which is helpful

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not for a novice, good general purpose applications
Review: It's layout makes it hard to find what you need when you need it. It does contain a lot of information and touchs on most everything. it doesn't go as deep as I would like. It is a good referance book if you have time surf thru it's confusing index.

Summary: Should be called, "HOW TO USE WIN95"
Review: My home PC refused to read the CD ROM, my office PC read the CD ROM, but the free check book writer appears to have bugs (type mismatch errors everytime you try to print). The book is too much fluff and white space. Better off buying a empty soda bottle (for a lot of air).

Summary: Bundled software didn't work so well

Summary: Begining would be a better description
Review: Nowhere near enough meat in it, could have done with a bit more VBA

Summary: superficial overview of Access 97
Review: This book covers alot of territory with respect to Access 97. However, if you are new to relational databases and Access specifically, this book does not provide simple and coherent steps in creating databases using Access.
This book was used by a university database class of which I was a part and very few students actually found the book of much help. The index is confusing and has the reader jumping from chapter 1 to 25. I wish I had read a review of this work before dropping $65.00.

Summary: Should be called, "HOW TO USE WIN95"
Review: This book focuses far too much on how to use the basic aspects of the Win95 enviroment, instead of cutting to the basics of how to use Access 97 and create anything.

This is the WORST Sybex book I have ever bought.

Summary: Great information, if you don't count the CD
Review: This book has become the bible of Access to me. However, I think the CD could have been used in a far better, integrated way. They serve the purpose, but they could have been made far more visual. Don't buy this book if you're expecting an autoload self-running CD tutorial. But if you're looking for a great reference book, and a great learning tool on everything one can do with Access - this is the book to get! I was somewhat oriented to Access before, but not in detail, before I bought this book. I now know stuff off the back of my hand. A very clear index also helps in accessing information. The book starts off with the basic features in Access, and then goes on to explain in detail about building and refining a custom application w/Access. Awesome! Highly recommended. I tried several different books, and settled happily with this. Love, Peace, Light, and Laughter... :)
