Rating: Summary: I'm sure I've seen these before Review: And I have. Frank used to run a tutorials site which contained a large portion of the content of this book FOR FREE. Many of the techniques for character modeling were outdated years before this book was even published. The section on special effects using spheres is especially disheartening, since trueSpace has had many plugins available for some time that were created for particle effects and other special effects. This is a decent book for a beginner, but to REALLY get to know the program, and if you can get a hold of it, pick up Peter Plantecs' trueSpace2 Bible. Since most of the features in trueSpace2 are in trueSpace 4, you can get that book cheaper and it's written MUCH better, and many of the tutorials in Inside trueSpace4 were written FOR trueSpace 2, you'd be better off
Rating: Summary: One of the finest 3D books I've ever read! Review: As a co-author of this book (I wrote the textures section and provided the Marlin Studios sample textures), my objective opinion about its content probably doesn't hold as much water as the unbiased reader's opinion. But, as a user of trueSpace since the first release, I have read literally every book written on the subject, and contributed to a few. I think Inside trueSpace4 is the ultimate book on the subject. The idea to use some of the real TS superstars as co-authors to surround and enhance Frank's work is ingenious. While I know the program very well, I'm not an expert in every aspect. I'm finding myself picking up the book more and more to find out how to do highly specialized things that I may be a bit rusty with, or have never become proficient in. For example, I recently had a requirement for a particle animation, and hadn't done one in years. I opened the book to Oliver Zeller's chapter and I was making a particle fountain animation in a matter of minutes. Without this book on the shelf next to my PC, I could probably eventually figure out how to do most anything in TS. But I'm saving days of self-teaching by instead listening to the masters. Congratulations to Frank and the other authors for one of the finest 3D books I've ever read!

Rating: Summary: Excellent Reference, within a few pages you learn new stuff Review: I enjoy this book. It is a great reference for trueSpace modelers, beginners or pro's. This is the book I have been looking for. I have all the trueSpace books, but this is the best by far. Now I'm not afraid to work with metaballs, and having fun to boot. Get this book and you will not be sorry.

Anyone can benefit from this top of the line CG guide to one of the most popular programs around.Like the book cover says, "No one is more qualified to demonstrate the power of trueSpace than Frank A. Rivera" and it shows. The character master himself illustrates the power of TrueSPace. If you don't have it get it.

Rating: Summary: Top notch work from a low end package is in fact possible Review: I have been a fan of Frank Rivera's work since he first appeared on the CGI scene wowing everyone with his Softimage and POV imagery many years ago. He has never disappointed me with his arwork and tutorials. I have been waiting years for him to write a book, and had given up since he suddenly vanished without a trace only to find that he has been using and supporting Truespace for the past few years. I don't use trueSpace but I had to see what made Frank leave the highend arena and write a book about Truespace. Well, I have to say the program is terribly easy to grasp with Frank's book in hand. I was creating great work in no time. Frank deserves five stars for his efforts in this book. He gets down to business and with real world examples that can be appriciated by pros and beginners alike. Please don't make us wait no more than a year to write another exceptional book on CGI my friend. Timothy
Rating: Summary: Too much info, too little space Review: I have just started reading this book and i'm amaized at the amout of information the author was able to put into it. All of chapter 3 goes through most of the modeling methods. This book does not go into detail in any one subject, but if you are a beginer and have read the manual (like me) you will find this book most helpful. As long as one knows his or her way around truespace he or she can use this book to its full potential.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book on trueSpace! Review: I knew nothing about trueSpace before I read this book! I couldn't even move lights! Now, I feel like I could make the short film, created by the Author, like is on the CD.
