Description:
Though undeniably big and heavy, Solaris 7 Reference could become your best friend pretty fast if you interact with Solaris 7, the latest iteration of Sun Microsystems's OS, with any regularity. Inside this volume, you'll find each of the several hundred user commands contained in Section 1 of Sun's online manual, from atrm to zcat. Smartly organized, the introductory section groups all commands by function with brief but specific phrases on each command's particular raison d'être as well as accompanying page numbers; however, the rest of the text is alphabetically arranged, which makes it easy to find what you need. And if you're still stumped, there's always the index. But this book is much more than a massive list. Several pages are devoted to each command in which a clearly written and relatively detailed description of what the command can do for you is provided. Also included are usage examples and add-on command options, and, in some cases, the author even comes forth with workarounds for bugs. The occasional screen shot and warning also dot the pages, providing context and highlighting potential pitfalls. If you need an easy-to-navigate reference to the multitude of Solaris commands, this book is an excellent investment. --Sarah L. Roberts-Witt
