Rating: Summary: STOP!! Don't buy this book! Review: I always enjoy a good bathroom book that I can pick up, thumbthrough, and learn a new command that I've not tried or a new switchon an old command. (A great way to learn VI)I was disappointed in this book when I found that many for my favorite commands like vmstat, iostat, disks, add_drv, dev_links, and many other commands were NOT found. Note on the Inside Flap: .. Complete guide to all man pages in Section 1 User Commands. User commands like date, diff, dump, exportfs, ftp, pkginfo, mailx were very detailed - much more then the man pages provide. Janice put together 1550 pages of detailed Section 1 man pages and did a very good job. I feel for [this price] a Reference book (like a Dictionary) needs to be complete and therefor the book is miss-named. Perhaps Solaris 7 (Section 1 man page) Commands would be a more applicable title. How would you like to buy a dictionary only to discover when you went to look up a word that your dictionary didn't cover that word? Soon you would stop using that dictionary! I returned my copy and will wait for the Complete Solaris 7 Reference. I the mean time, I can depend on the man pages.
Rating: Summary: Sometimes there's no substitute for Friends Review: The Author (or a friend) disses the two other reviews that were negative when in fact they were dead-on. This book is nothing more that a bound set of Man pages, with very little information that was useful. I returned it.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: The previous review got it right -- this book is a cheesy attempt to get people to part with their money for what is essentially the Solaris man pages bound with a nice cover. There is no added value whatsoever. I returned my copy for a refund after realizing what this really was.
