Summary: Great Book!
Review: After reading the first couple of chapters, I was able to get my feet wet in using FrontPage 2002 to create a mini Web site. I figured that because this book was written by a 16 year old, the book would be lacking in content and depth. But I was completely surprised. This book's step by step instructions are simply great with detailed explanations. I was even able to contact the author himself for a small question, and he responded within the next few hours just as promised in his book.

This book is a great resource for any beginner or intermediate developer. Not only do you learn the basics of FrontPage such as image editing and text inputting, you also learn how to save form data and use Web components.

Summary: Verbose
Review: Front Page 2002: A beginner's guide - does a decent job of teaching you Frontpage, but it is overly simplistic. It takes forever to learn core tasks. The main fault I found with the book is that it is NOT concise! In a manual of this type, you want the author to get to the key points, efficiently communicate what you need to know, and move on. This book fails in this regard. That said, to it's credit, if you have the time, it does eventually get around to explaining how to use front page.

Summary: Great book to get yourself involved in FrontPage 2002
Review: I am not a complete beginner to the world of HTML and FrontPage, but I was far from able to create anything decent. I heard from several friends that this book was quite good, and I have not regretted my decision that I bought it. This is one of the best beginner/intermediate books I have read for FrontPage 2002. The author does a great job of covering this topic. Only after having bought this book did I realize that this author is the same individual behind one of the best technology sites, kirupa.com.

The information is well organized and the instructions are great for people who don't know anything about FrontPage to follow. Much to my regret, the Author did not cover SharePoint, but then again, this book is about beginners and all beginner topics are covered quite well. The author presents an unbiased book on FrontPage that exalts the best features and admonishes the worst features in the book so you can avoid using them. All in all, a great book...very fun and informative!

Summary: Great Examples, Great Content, Great Book!
Review: I don't normally post reviews on items, but this was the first time a book that I read actually fulfilled its purpose of teaching me FrontPage. I have had no prior experience in creating a Web site with the exception of a free site I maintained in my spare time. I was looking into improving my skills in design, and this book really helped me out by teaching the program we call FrontPage! If you are looking for a great book to get started in Web design using FrontPage, this book written by Kirupa Chinathambi is an excellent addition.

What I liked about this book is the varied examples. A lot of the beginner guide books use the same or similar mundane examples and force people to learn from them. FrontPage 2002 A Beginner's Guide uses a variety of examples, color schemes, and more beyond the repetitive default MS provided themes. Best of all, Kirupa teaches you how to create the examples in a "recipe" like format with clear step-by-step instructions.

In short, this book was interesting to read. The author has a bright sense of humor , and some of the examples in the book reflect that. Complementing the humor is the rock-solid content and examples. The author is very familiar with FrontPage, and one look at this book's Web site shows the author's deep understanding in design and FrontPage. Interspersed throughout the book are the Author's comments and Tips and Notes that teach you new methods of doing old tricks, explain unclear features, and tell you why things work the way they work.

Get this book! It is the best book on FrontPage 2002 for newbies that I have read.

Summary: Great Book - Really!
Review: I don't write reviews either, but I am appaled at some of the reviews written here. I have been a long-time fan of Kirupa's work, and this book is extremely good. After seeing the 1 star reviews, I was very much tempted to see what I was missing....for I found this book to be excellent and useful. The content is clear and engaging, the support provided by Kirupa via e-mail and forums excellent, and the use of illustrations and explanations superb.

His method of explaining is very unique, which makes his work very successful. Kirupa creates sample sites for you to work on, and you edit and modify his designs. You are spared the drudgery of creating a site from scratch each time. If you read the book, you'll see numerous references to kirupa's e-mail and support forums for any help you may need. There is no need to be lost reading this book!

If anyone is on the lookout for an excellent FrontPage book, this would have to be it.

Thanks,
DH aka kirupafan

Summary: This book completely misses the mark.
Review: I have never been driven to writing a book review before, but this book misses the mark by such a wide margin that I feel I must.

This book fails on several fronts.

1. The reader is instructed to create new pages for each new topic. Rather than building on lessons learned, this fragmentary approach is confusing and distracts the reader.

2. The descriptive text in the book is often less useful than FrontPage's online help. For example, when reading about link bars I had to read the online help to figure out what the author was referring to.

3. Sometimes the information is simply wrong. For example, the section on publishing a web page states that "The method of publishing you will learn will work on both FrontPage-and-non-FrontPage-compliant web servers". This is simply wrong. Attempting to publish to the web server of the ISP I used failed because it doesn't support FrontPage extensions. Of course, this book never mentions alternate ways to publish, assuming that every ISP in the world uses FrontPage extensions.

I could go on and on, but my advice is - if you're looking for a FrontPage 2002 book, look elsewhere.

Summary: Easy way to learn FrontPage
Review: I have read many books about the Internet and Web development, but this book was one of the best. The examples are easy to understand, and many of the questions that I had about features in FrontPage 2002 were answered clearly. The chapter (module) that contained information about all of the FrontPage Web Components alone is worth buying this book. The entire book nicely combines design and information with source files and colorful examples created by the author himself! This will be one of the best books aimed at teaching beginners like me FrontPage.

Summary: FrontPage(r) 2002: A Beginner's Guide
Review: I was persuaded to buy this book after reading the reviews (...) and also the fact that it received 5 star ratings.
However, I was disappointed to the fact that it had so many typing errors and I don't think it was well written. I only read the first 40 pages and decided I have had enough and will return the book.

Summary: This book is nearly worthless
Review: In 20 years of computing, I have rarely encountered a book as poor as this one. For one thing, rather than starting a web site from scratch and enhancing it as new lessons are learned, the author has the reader continually creating new web sites from scratch, resulting in a very fragmented learning approach. Secondly, there is far more information in the online help than is contained in the book. In several instances I had to read the online help to figure out what the book was talking about. Lastly, in several cases instructions were given were just plain wrong. For example, it states that "the method of publishing you will learn will work on both FrontPage-and-non-FrontPage-compliant Web servers." Wrong, it didn't work with my ISP, and this book was useless in finding out why. Save your money, pass on this one.
