Rating: Summary: Very good book! Review: Very good overview of networking technology. I am rarely impressed with Sybex books, but this happens to be one of the ones I really love, along with their cisco series. I highly reccomend this book only for beginners, or for networking pro's who need a quick refresh. I only read half of it, because I started Cisco training, but from what I DID read, I was highly impressed, if you want a complete overview of networking, you need nothing else! Get this book! A MUST for any IT profesional.
Rating: Summary: Handy Guide to have around for [the price] Review: Well worth [the price] to have on hand. If your already a little familiar with networking but curious to learn more this will teach you the most of the basics. It does not go in depth but will lead you in the right direction. The only thing I wish is that they would update this book to include Windows 2000.
Rating: Summary: Networking complete - in book review Review: Well... i've just read the first topic and are now onto networking in the workplace and i don't think very highly of this book at all... statments like networks are here to replace floppy disks (sneakernets) could be misleading to newbies, in essence networks are here to communicate information quickly and efficitantly... i'll post a full review once i've finshed readly the book... "you get what you pay for" and 30.00 for a technology book means you'll get $30.00 worth of information
Rating: Summary: Solid foundation for newbies or those needing a refresh Review: While this book is out of print, you may be able to find it at some half price stores or though Amazon's used book section. Overall, this book provides a solid collection of network foundation topics that prove invalueable to today's network technician newbie. What I liked most about this book is it's non-proprietary approach to teaching networking concepts on various platforms - e.g. UNIX, Apple, Microsoft and Novell. Also, the level of expertise needed to comprehend the material is relatively easy, which is great for those just entering the field. If you've been in networking for awhile, this however may not be a good book. However, it could be a good refresher.
