Summary: The Bad with the Good
Review: I bought this book based in large part on the earlier reviews. Up through session 9 I thought the tutorials and explanations were excellent and did a good job of leading me through the learning process for Dreamweaver MX.

Then I reached Session 10 and suddenly the files didn't match what the tutorials said. Little in the beginning tutorials for this session worked and the photos didn't match my files. Four times I went through the earlier tutorials to see if I had missed anything.

In exasperation, I copied the "complete" files from Session 9 to begin Session 10 again. And again, the files didn't match. Since the files build on each other, Session 10 was a washout and I could not complete it.

Even more frustrating is trying to get "support" from the publisher. Twice filing out their support form and twice being promised a response with 24 hrs I have heard nothing in over a week.

Why is it that when we're being charged [alot]for a book the publisher/author can't hire an editor to verify what's there?

Summary: Beware of the 5-star reviews
Review: I bought this book based on other positive reviews, but can only conclude that there must be multiple versions of this book in circulation. How anyone could claim to have worked through the entire book and not have encountered an incredible number of errors is a complete mystery to me.

The author confuses files throughout the book. Files are referenced with incorrect names, are misplaced on the CD, or names are misspelled. These errors are numerous and lead to much frustration while completing the exercises. A brief, simple example occurs on p. 244, where the author asks you to create a link to the "instructor.htm" file. The correct name of the file, however, is "instructors.htm" (with an "s"). Some minor errors like these are easy enough to figure out, but there are so many that I felt like I was doing the editor's job while working through the book. Other problems involve incomplete instructions, the most common being when you are instructed to open multiple documents simultaneously, but the author is not careful to instruct you to switch to the proper document before performing a task.

One reviewer made reference to an errata page included with the book, but no such information was included with my copy nor on the CD. If errata information were to be included, it would probably have to contain an amount of text equal to the size of the book itself, so numerous are the errors.

I am no newcomer to computers and have taught computer technology in the classroom for many years. While this book is attractively laid out with helpful illustrations, it just doesn't make the grade due to sloppy editing and numerous mistakes. Beware of the overly positive reviews. There is no way anyone could have diligently worked through the entire book and claimed that everything worked smoothly and only a few errors were encountered. The book needs a complete overhaul.

Summary: not Mac-friendly!!!
Review: I bought this to help students learn Dreamweaver MX. We use Macs in the lab, and this book shows Windows pictures and terminology only. There are several places in the Dreamweaver program which are worded differently, but there are no notes referring to this, or pictures to show the difference. It would have been relatively simple to show both. I was extremely disappointed , and I am considering pitching it and getting another instead.

Summary: thumbs down
Review: i found this book really over-complicated and difficult to use. the language used to write it is a totally bizairre mix of technical jargon and casual writing. the book, although claiming to be mac friendly is not at all and only shows images of PC interfaces, leaving mac users to figure things out on their own. i've gone back to using the skinny little manual that came with dreamweaver. this book is useless to me; it's one for the circular file.

Summary: really bad
Review: I got this book reading others reviews and decided it would be a great start for me. The book is way to inconsistent and could have you lost a little at times. I am not too critical on reviews and actually pretty nice about them, but this book I did not even finish after I got through about half of it. I consider myself very knowledgable with PC's in general and this book left me wishing I would have spent my money else where.

If you are like me and want to have an awesome understanding of DW, then this book does not go that in depth. The author just walks you through it with very little teaching along the way. It shows you how to build a website with all her pre-made pictures, but I felt as if I was just plugging in things the whole time, not really developing a great site. My biggest gripe was the lack of instruction, the authors way of teaching was basically do this and do that, but not telling my why I am doing this and doing that.

... The 'Dreamweaver MX Hands-On-Training' as well seems to have a great rep for great books. I regret not getting that book instead of this one. Save your money and get another book if you really want to learn the ins and outs of developing great sites with Dreamweaver.

Summary: Great book
Review: I have been looking for a book that would show me how to work with Dreamweaver for a while now but was always disappointed when looking thru them.

This one however provides step by step instructions on how things are completed. Its a great book but with some flaws...

There are errors such as that on page 106 where they talk about linking the training and the designing .htm file. It is reversed. Other annoying things I found was the terms they use are at times inconsistances such as the "restore down button" ... normally, people call this the minimize and maximize button. Some guides are not as clear or that I have problems understanding/following. An example is on page 112 step 17.

Besides those flaws, this is a great book for beginners and even for those who have worked with Dreamweaver before.

Summary: I DID IT
Review: I made my first website! What's really cool is that I now have a neat design I can change and use again.

This has been one of the best books I've purchased yet. I don't understand some of the things I've been reading about this book because I'm 14 years old and did just fine. My high school class used it.

We did check on the errata which is posted at the authors website which is at the authors full name (no spaces) dot com.

If you learn by doing like I do then you'll like this book.

Summary: MOST UNBELIEVABLE BOOK I'VE EVER READ
Review: I paid 75 bucks canadian for this book and trust me, it's worth so much more! I am so addicted to this book you have to pry it from my fingers. I looked for a book on dreamweaver for 1.5 hours and came across this one right off the bat. Than I started looking to see if there was anything else compariable. There was this other book about 4 times the size for the same price. I still choose this one. Why? Because the instructions are clear, concise and colourful. Sure I made mistakes..but I kept going back and reading the instructions again. Until I got it. She shows you what the final instruction will look like. If it didn't look like the picture, I would start again. I highly recommend this book at ANYONE. I was also impressed enough to write the author. (which I have NEVER done before). She replied within 16 hours. I was so delighted. This book is definitely the best book on dreamweaver out there. Five stars...it should be ten/ten..

Summary: Macromedia Dreamweaver MX Training Course is Awesome !!!
Review: I recently purchased this book from Amazon. I found it to be fair priced and as described. I was able to build a small website in the first 2 chapters. This book uses hand-on type of training with the included CD. I am very pleased with this book and recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to make professional websites.
