Rating: Summary: Fantastic Book Review: I was coming to DreamweaverMX from the coding world, having done a number of sites in Visual InterDev, looking to pick up a book that would teach me Dreamweaver in a just few days. This is the absolute best textbook I have ever used for any subject. Joyce Evans needs to teach the folks at Wrox how a training book should be done. It could not have been clearer, and there were NO errors! (are you listening Wrox?) I hope Joyce is doing Fireworks and Flash books to go along with this great effort. Cant say enough about it, it's just great.

Rating: Summary: Errors? Yes, but excellent resource! Review: Joyce Evans's Dreamweaver MX the Complete Course is an excellent resource for simple web design. I've read all the negative reviews concerning this tutorial. All concerns are valid concerns, but my overall objectives for purchasing this book have been acheived. I am able to comfortably navigate throughout the Dreamweaver environment and I am confident I can use each of functions the book teaches to make a successful website. I have completed two websites of my own since completion of the book! I do agree this book should not be used in a classroom setting. You need flexibility and time to fight through the errors in the book, but the errors are so minor, they actually helped me become more confident with the software. I was able to complete each session successfully! Don't rush through this one. Enjoy and understand the Dreamweaver MX environment, and you will acheive great results as a beginner! Before I read this book, I read all the reviews and corrected the printed errors. More importantly, take a short amount of time to review Joyce J. Evans' website and correct the errors she posts. This should clear most of the major problems. This book is an excellent hands on resource and I highly recommend it to all Dreamweaver MX beginners!

Rating: Summary: FOR BEGINNERS WHO NEED CONCISE DETAILS Review: This book has a unique approach to the versatile nature of Macromedia's "Dreamweaver MX" software. It provides its reader with an evocative insight into the capabilities of the Applications suite. Its outlook is that of a narrative summary: saving readers the time that would have been otherwise spent on unnecessary details. The book's information on 'Dreamweaver' tools are complete, but, one may be disappointed by the scanty coverage it gave Codings. Also, those who are interested in ASP, XHTML, and JavaScripts should look for a more comprehensive alternative. The information this book provided on those topics are poor. Thus, I would recommend this "Dreamweaver MX Complete Course" for beginners who need to tackle one problem at a time. The included CD-ROM has some interesting features. This is a nice handbook to have if you are a beginner, but, advanced learners may not need it.
Rating: Summary: Great Visual Tutorial Review: This book is a slick illustrated tutorial of Dreamweaver MX's tools. With Deamweaver MX opened and this book on your lap, you will learn Dreamweaver MX's RAD tools. Don't expect in depth explanations of JavaScript, XHTML, Cold Fusion or ASP etc. The book is oriented to tools not coding.
Rating: Summary: Good concept, but filled with errors and unusable data files Review: This book is good in concept but it is filled chock full of errors so that attempting to build on the work in previous chapters in order to realize a final project is nearly impossible and extremely frustrating. The author provides readers with "final" versions of files from each chapter so that, theoretically, the reader can skip chapters and still complete the project. In reality, however, this does not work smoothly because the "final' versions of the files are filled with errors and so are unusable in many cases. I made the mistake of choosing this book as the textbook for a Dreamweaver course that I teach and it has been disastrous. Not only are there errors in the files provided, but there are numerous typos and errors in the book. For example, on p. 160, the author asks the reader to open the "training.htm" file when she actually meant the PDG.dwt template file (as can be concluded by looking carefully at the screen capture of the file). Repeated errors such as this make working on the projects a complete nightmare. I don't understand how this book made it past the editors and I certainly don't understand how this book merits some of the favorable reviews on this site (if, in fact, these reviewers actually worked through the entire book).
Rating: Summary: A great step-by-step skills-building book! Review: This book really builds your skills as you work through the project tutorials. I especially liked the high-quality images--tons of them--you just don't get with most books these days. I'm a beginner to building data-driven sites, but the chapters on web applications were a great help....made it easy enough to follow, especially setting up my site's definition to connect to my database using ASP. I love the price, too! A great buy and a truly useful resource for Dreamweaver MX newbies.
