Summary: I recommend this book
Review: I would recommend this book for those taking the Network+ exam. I read and studied this book twice along with a Microsoft Networking Essentials book in preparation for the test and passed with a 91%. This may not seem like a real high score but considering I don't work in the computer networking industry (yet) this book prepared me well. Mike Meyers has a way of writing that makes it easy to understand using pertinent background, history, illustrations, whys & hows. A little humor makes it even more interesting. By explaining which topics are important and what technologies are used or not used in the real world makes the study more realistic. The only reason I gave the book a 4 was for a few mistakes or typos and a more complete glossary and index would have been helpful.

Summary: ******THIS BOOK IS A JOKE AND THE CD IS USELESS*****
Review: I've read this book from beginning to end and I found way too many errors in this book from simple mispelled words & typo's to skipped chapters in the table of contents & WRONG networking practices like the 5-4-3 rule mentioned in chapter 2. This book is very sloppy, poorly written, and should have used a spell checker before going to print. The CD is another thing about this book that is useless because you only get 2 exams for the Core and 2 for the O.S. If you want to unlock the remaining 500+ questions or however many they offer then break out your wallet and get ready to pay for those exams which is almost the same price as the book itself. It's a useless book and a useless CD just like the A+ CD from the All in one A+ Study Guide by Michael Meyers. If you really want to understand more about networks and pass the exam then get a copy of the Network+ Study Guide by David Groth published by Sybex. I have the Sybex book and it is more detailed and has "FREE" practice exams unlike this book. It's just too bad that amazon does'nt offer a 0 star or a negative star cause this is where I would definitely use it. All in all this book is probably only good for people who have no networking and very little pc experience but thats about it, and even then it's still not worth it. Save yourself the trouble and get the Sybex book and the exam cram book by the coriolis group.

Summary: Very dissapointed in Mr. Meyers again. And the price!
Review: If you just need to learn the finer points of DNS or the inner workings of ethernet, you don't need this book. All you need is the web and a search engine. I was very dissapointed in this book because (like Mr. Meyers A+ book) three of every four pictures is insultingly, worthlessly simple. On page 17 for example is a picture of two human figures talking at the same time with a caption that reads "Two people talking at the same time can tell that they are not the only ones talking." Well, REALLY?! I'm not kidding. Granted it's a very simplified way to illustrate the basics of CSMA/CD but it takes up one-third of the page, and this is common. This 530 page book should only really be about 250 pages long. There is SOME good information in here, but I found the same information on the web for free. If you are completely new to the feild, Mr. Meyers two books are okay. But JUST okay.

Summary: Need more detail, less typos!!!
Review: Not only were there typos-a-plenty, but also incorrect info when giving examples (Classes of subnet masks come to mind, as well as maximum distance for 100BaseFX). I felt I had a pretty good working knowledge for the Network + exam just from prior experience, however wanted a good book to lock down the gaps and hazy spots in my knowledge. I found many questions on the exam went a step further in detail than what this book did. (Anyone know the function of a Brouter??). This Network + test now requires a score of 752 out of 900 possible and is 65 questions in length. This only allows you to miss about 10 questions. I came close with a score of 740 and a co-worker (studying from this ALL-IN-ONE Network + book as well.. actually it's his book) passed at the borderline score.

This book did seem to cover most all areas in which the test asked questions on and would probably get you the 68% by the old standards, however doesn't quite make the mark by the new standards. I believe i'll be investigating the Network + Study Guide by David Groth.

Summary: 5 stars does not do this book Justice!
Review: Of all the IT books I've ever read this one is leaps and bounds above them in many areas.

It is very fluid and incredibly easy to read.

The pictorials are excellent, simple and to the point.

The writing has a touch a humour that makes it entertaining to read, I actually had some smirks while reading this book. But it is not taken to far as to make the book look silly.

I would recommend this book above any other Network+ books, especially if you're going to only buy one book for the certification.

I would also recommend it as reference book or a book for any course that delves in Networking. A network newbie would love this book to learn.

I hope Michael Meyers and Brian Schwarz make a Server+ All in One book with the same guidelines as this one.

Summary: The Only Book I Needed To Pass
Review: This book does exactly what it claims. It prepares the reader for becoming Network+ certified. Containing a CD with a test engine, it gives the reader two separate practice exams with the option of acquiring more. It also comes with an wall chart of the OSI model that can be used for future reference. While providing sufficient information on different technologies covered on the exam, it does not contain the technical "fluff" associated with many exam preparation guides. The pictures and illustrations included augment the flowing writing style, aiding the reader in maintaining proper perspective on the topics presented.
