Rating: Summary: Extremely Useful, Well-Written Book Review: I have used this book to build my Visual Basic skills required for my job. This book is very well-written and extremely easy to use. The book is accessible to novices, but also is a good reference for experts.
Rating: Summary: It Taught me all the basic of VB programmin Review: I read this 384 page book in about 3 days, knowing very little about VB, and now I can do almost any basic function in Visual Basic, from moving objects to accessing Word, I would not recomend this book to an advanced programmer but to someone who is new at VB and want to learn all the basics, like builiding forms, and terms, and error-checking procedures. In closing this is a great book for new programmers
Rating: Summary: Really Helpful and Clear Review: I recently bought this book. Being a beginner in programming I really learned a lot from this book.
It clearly explains the concepts and makes you learn with practical examples. It kept my interest all the time.
Any beginner who is looking to buy an excellent visual basic book, I suggest you get this book and none other than this one.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Beginner's book Review: I started learning VB about 4 months ago by following the examples set forth within this book. It is easy to read, however, after reading this book, you are left thirsting for more information. I think more actual commands should have been included with an explanation. I am now writing Active X components as well as an on-line inventory program. I owe alot to this book.

Rating: Summary: Well Written for Every Beginner Review: I would like to congradulate MS for supplying a book which everyon can grasp. It makes Visual Basic look very basic, but also offers advance programming techniques. A must buy for every beginner.
Rating: Summary: The book is well-written, but does not cover much ground Review: I've already purchased and gotten totally frustrated with Cue's Visual Basic 5 Night School, as well as Wrox Press's Beginning Visual Basic 5 by Peter Wright. Due in part to the poor editing of the former, and the annoying British-isms of the latter, I began to wonder if the material was simply beyond my grasp. Little did I realize that books are generally one of the least efficient ways for adults to learn technical material and that very few technical authors have the gift to communicate their subject in a supportive manner. If you don't have the time or the money to immerse yourself in a fast-paced interactive environment, such as an Approved Technical Education Center course, then thank your lucky stars for Michael Halvorson, who seems to be the only guy in the bunch that understands not only his subject, but who has the rare gift to communicate it.
Rating: Summary: At last I've found a beginner's book written for beginners! Rating: Summary: A rare find in the world of computer books. Review: If you are new to VB this is the way to go. Michael Halvorson does a fantastic job organizing the topics and a fantastic job explaining it. How about an intermediate book Michael.
Rating: Summary: This Is It! Review: If you need a book to start out on Visual Basic 5.0. This is it. Easy for the beginner, but enough to fill in for the more advanced user.
