Rating: Summary: I ONCE WAS YOU! Review: I read this book from cover to cover and passed with an 800. I'm sure I would have done better if I had waited and took another Core test before hand but thought I'd go ahead and take a shot at it anyway and BAM! There were a few mistakes in this book but very few and not any critical ones (alot less than any other books I have read). I'm amused when I read these reviews on how this book doesn't have all the materials in it. Remember, that's what it's designed for! This book gets to the point and if you follow their system and studying recommendations and stick with it you can't go wrong! I actually looked forward to reading this book. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you BUY THIS BOOK! and definetely buy that other fat book with all the details too. Let me mention that IDG Books accidentally packaged the wrong CD and when I e-mailed them about the situation they promptly shipped me a new one ASAP. I also called Amazon and their customer service was Top Class (Amazon just sent me all the 4 Core books to make sure I had everything taken care of, WOW! Can't beat that folks! . Thanx for your service's!
Rating: Summary: Four and a half stars! It worked. Review: I read this book, online study guides/notes, cramseessions, and online practice test. For a little $$ and a little time online - I passed. My ATEC wanted $1200!%$#@! Buy the book. Get online. PASS! Enough said.
Rating: Summary: Not so bad, passed the exam just by studying this book! Review: I really think this book is not so bad, even if it contains quite a few mistakes, errors and word-mixing. I didn't know anything about networking before studying this book, and I only used this book to prepare for the exam. (I also looked on the internet on BrainDump Heaven and Cram Session, which both help). The book is dense, which means you almost have to remember every single paragraph to pass the exam. But it is worth doing it, and moreover, the book is one of the cheapest!! I definitly recommand it! D. Bouchon
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended Review: I recommend this book for people who are new to networking. A good rule of thumb for passing the MCSE is to read through this book, and then work on NT 4 Server, Workstation and Enterprise. Pass these test and then go back and take the Net Essentials test. This book gives a great outline of what to expect on the Net Essentials test.
Rating: Summary: Very good study guide Review: I used this book and the Exam Cram book to prepare for the Networking Essentials test. I passed the test and found this book to be more helpful than Exam Cram. I would recomend some other reading along with this book before taking the test. The only problems I had with the book were some wrong answers on the sample tests and the mediocore quality of the CD material.
Rating: Summary: Easy to read and understand. Best of MCSE 4 Dummies series Review: I used this book, ExamCram Flash Cards and free questions from web pages links and voila, in two weeks I passed the test, less than $50 dollars total in materials, this book is a must buy.
Rating: Summary: Fun Final Read Before Taking The Exam Review: I was pretty much ready for the exam before reading through this book, and found it entertaining, and a good refresher just before taking the test, and passing.
Rating: Summary: Not THAT good Review: I'm not sure who thinks these questions are as good as Transcender (must have been the author), but they obviously have never taken a Transcender test. The questions are too easy and have quite a few errors. The book is better though and contains enough information that one could use this as the sole study guide for the exam with enough experience. DON'T rely on these study questions...pick up Transcender.
Rating: Summary: I PASSED exam 70-58, with the help from this book! Review: Mr. Aschermann succinctly sums up the information needed to enable anyone to pass the Microsoft exam, 70-58. He took a challanging subject and with humor and insight made it less intimidating. The pre-chapter quizes were helpful in focusing study in the chapter. The post chapter tests, were thorough. The Cd included was a big study help, plus it contained a fun, informative game. The two sample tests at the end of the book did a good job emulating the real thing. My thanks to Robert Aschermann for his assistance in my passing the exam #70-58. Any person considering taking the exam, owes it to themselves, to check this book out!
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended Review: Networking Essentials is a dry and boring subject, and there's no 2 ways around it. You're dealing with a lot of memorization, cable lenghts, topologies, IRQ's and the OSI 7 Layer model. The good thing the Dummies book does is keep things light and sometimes humorous, so the subject matter doesn't come off as dry as it really is. I studied from this book, and then the Exam Cram book, and scored a 900/1000 last week on the test.
