Rating: Summary: Results PR! What a concept! Review: "Getting Attention" is a well balanced blend of returning to proven publicity tactics and applying those with the use of new technologies.Having worked in Marketing for of a number of hi-tech companies what a refreshing perspective to find a book on publicity that is more about results than theory. There are many books on the market which are full of strategic planning but this book goes beyond the planning into good solid "how to standout" examples in a market where the media has been buried with non-specific messages from the latest hi-tech startups. In addition this book has very common sense information on what not to send over e-mail, and web site presentation. Some of the information "seasoned" professionals may be aware of but I found the book refreshing and it has already changed our publicity plans for an upcoming product launch.
Rating: Summary: Speaking to the Soul of Public Relations Review: As a PR professional in an emerging market this book is a treasure. Full of good information on how to electronically pitch the media and make more effective presentations such as the VNR "Video News Releases" and "Cyber Media Tours". This book is a great guide, which speaks to the soul of Public Relations on how to effectively personalize corporate messages into something the media can relate to, and write about. Especially good information on how to combine e-mail with traditional mail campaigns. Many authors forget that the Internet is not a replacement for traditional communication, but rather an enhancement. This author did a great job of combining the proven and newer technologies into a concert, rather than a one-act play.
Rating: Summary: Susan Kohl's "Getting Attention" Certainly Got Mine! Review: As a professional in the high-tech industry for over 25 years, I thought I pretty much knew it all. When I recently decided to take a 180 degree turn in my career path, a colleague of mine recommended I read Susan Kohl's book, "Getting Attention". What a gem! This book has been invaluable to me in my transition. It offers practical and useful tips with well documented case studies. I have already implemented several of her tips on getting your website listed with search engines. The author has very successfully written a book that can be enjoyed by the seasoned professional and the newcomer alike. If you have a product or service to offer and you're searching for tools for success, buy this book!
Rating: Summary: Required reading for any PR pro Review: As a veteran of the PR and news business for the past 20 years, I've read numerous books and articles about the profession. Of them all, Susan Kohl's book,"Getting Attention," ranks at the top. Not only does the author shed light on some of the mysteries of cyberspace, but she has a superb knack for explaining somewhat complicated and technical terms in an undertandable manner. What I really love about the book are the case studies which use actual PR situations to enhance the information the author is relating. In my view, "Getting Attention" is a must read for anyone who wants to stay ahead in the PR industry. Don't pass this one up.
Rating: Summary: Great write up in the Industry Standard Review: I . . . Ordered the book last week and just received mycopy. Great creative examples and case studies for PR campaigns, aswell as tips on how to give the media what they need (story line hook)in order to get published in print or covered by the electronic media. In a world where everyone is about "Getting Attention" for our companies messages what a terrific guide this book has become for our Marketing department. . . . I highly recommend this book not only to my peers in PR and Marketing but to anyone who wants to have their organization stand out and get noticed. Getting @ttention is the talk of our office! Buying copies for all our associates.
Rating: Summary: Marketing Made Easy Review: I can't help but think this should be required reading for the thousands of PR workers who issue press releases everyday that the media ignores. Kohl's easy-to-read guide takes an everyman approach to marketing. The case studies are compelling and interesting. The author understands what many expensive PR firms seem to have forgotten, that getting publicity can be fun and cheap if you approach it the right way. Here in the Silicon Valley, companies spend obscene amounts of money on press kits. They'd be better off investing a few bucks in Kohl's book to learn what works and what's a waste a time when it comes to getting attention.
Rating: Summary: Great Session at the Bostoon PRSA Tech Conference Review: I first met Susan Kohl at the session on new technology approaches to the traditional media at the Boston PRSA conference. I picked up her new book at the conference. On the pane home I got a chance to read the first few chapters and some of the case studies. Love the case studies and "real life examples" for success in "Getting Attention". "Getting Attention" should be required reading for any Marketing , Advertising or Public Relations professional. "Getting Attention" is a practal guide for anyone who wants to have a positve affect on the public awareness and publicity for their organization, wether it be community or business based.

Good examples for for profits, non-profits and how different segements of the industry can communicate effectively. Filled with relevant tips on on how to be more effective with presentations and pitches to the media.
