Rating: Summary: Very concise refrerence Review: I had the benefit of taking the MOC cirruciulum from Chris Leonard while I started my self-study with this book. It is obvious to me that he is very knowledgeable about databases in general and has very commanding undertsanding of SQL 7. The authors of this exam prep book did an outstanding job of describing concepts that are hard to digest. Where the MOC fell short, these authors took over. There is information on T-SQL and stored proceedures that you will not find with Microsoft's material. Plus there is a very logical study path that makes study for MCDBA much easier. I am fairly new to SQL and I wouldn't even consider taking the test if it weren't for this book.

Rating: Summary: BEST 70-29 Book With Lots of Extra "Wisdom" Review: I have asked around a lot for good books to help prepare for this tough exam. I took the MOC course from this book's #1 author (Chris Leonard). He is a GREAT teacher, and I learned a lot in the course. But I learned even MORE from his book! Chris said during class that a lot of folks have trouble finding a good book on this subject and he could "at least vouch for this one." Well, I can too! This book is much, much better than the other prep material I've seen for this exam. The folks who wrote it are big-time real-world DBAs, and they are able to pass on their wisdom very effectively. If you're window-shopping for a SQL core database skills book, this is it! I passed the exam using this book as my main review tool, and I intend to still use this book as a reference frequently. This is the best book I've ever come across for being a combination exam preparation tool PLUS a good reference.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Review: I really liked the chapter on Indexes, this book was laid out very nicely. Definitely a book to have on your shelf while you're working on the SQL 7 Implementation Exam.Watch out for the CD exam though, in the edition I have the exam had a lot of questions on it and there didn't seem to be a way to go thru just a subset of questions...
Rating: Summary: Fabulous Book Review: The authors will give you a leg up. This is a very succinct book clearly outlining SQL 7.0 design. Although you will need to supplement with additional analysis and design theory, the book continues to be a valuable resource in my personal library. Whether you are new to SQL or a veteran of legacy systems the coverage is excellent.
Rating: Summary: VERY, VERY GOOD! Review: This is a wonderful book that delivers much more than its promise of preparing you for the MS Database Implementation exam. Readable, accurate, and thorough, it will now do duty as a trusty desktop reference now that I have passed the exam! Thanks, Coriolis!
Rating: Summary: About delivery service Review: This title is excellent for reviewing for the exam only. It covers all the subjects faced on the exam, and nicely hits a few fine points pinpointed on the exam. If you already know database design then this book should be enough for the exam. However, it will not teach a newcomer enough. I used this primarily to narrow down what subjects to review for this particular exam. As other reviewers have stated, the sample questions are easy compared to the final, but the concepts are the same.

Rating: Summary: Excellent guidelines Review: Very well written and very useful in real world. However, test questions in the CD are no where near the real test. The real test questions are long and require understandings and relationship of almost all features of SQL Server 7. Read this book to get guidelines along with using the Transcender exam should be sufficient to get you pass the exam.
Rating: Summary: Good reference text, logical progression for the exam Review: While this book alone isn't enough to pass 70-029, it is logically organized and provides solid training in SQL Server-specific design and tuning concepts. Definitely slanted toward practical use, this volume provides decent examples of where you can actually apply the concepts that it teaches. Far superior to the MOC (Microsoft Official Curriculum).
