Summary: This is a very good JavaScript book.
Review: This was the first time I ordered a book through Amazon.com and I must say I'm very happy I did. The book reads easily. JavaScript is explained to you in a very understandable way, going through the examples step-by-step. It's so nicely written that I wanted to read it as fast as possible.

You can implement the examples in your own work, and with a bit of creativity you can achieve very professional results. I've used the popular rollover effects on our website and intend to use more ideas out of the book.

My intrest to go on with JavaScript has increased by reading this splendid book.

Summary: The First JavaScript Book You Can Understand!
Review: If you have ever tried to learn JavaScript before, you probably could never understand a thing from reading the books. Before you even see a little example, you have to read pages of hard-to-read text. Finally someone realized that and created a book that concentrates on the universal examples. If you have read reviews calling this book diffuclt and hard to read, just wait until you get a book other than this one.

Summary: Great for beginners...
Review: I used this book as a basis for lectures in a university-level course in HTML and JavaScript. Given the knowledge level of the students (beginning programmers, knowledgeable about computers), the book was an excellent fit. I found only small problems with the code, and I think they could have been blamed on browser differences. Two cautions: first, there is very little information on processing forms. Nick does not go into very much detail about how to get information from a select box to the screen, for example. Second, there is not any information on resources you could use for additional explanations (ie - the Netscape JavaScript Reference). I think it would be an asset to this book if it explained how to find more information on the web, since it does just offer an introduction. As someone who has programmed a lot, but never in JavaScript, I was able to very quickly pick things up, and got bored. I found that a lot of the questions I had were just not answered. This is a *great* book for beginners, but not for those with some background in JavaScript or web programming.

Summary: Good resource for the JavaScript-challenged...
Review: Although this is the first JavaScript book I've looked at, I've found that it's a good resource.I just bought the book today, and already I've added two JavaScripts to my company's web site. The grammar is a bit poor, which can make you stumble through some sentences, but the book is still relatively easy to follow -- even for someone with no JavaScript experience. The examples are helpful, and the explanations make the concepts fairly clear.

Summary: Poorly written, poor examples, just poor!
Review: This book has an attractive front cover which makes the consumer believe he is purchasing a fun book that will show him all sorts of neat things to do with java script. This just isn't the case. Looking beyond the poor grammar, the examples were confusing and with the completion of the book I learned very little. The little that I did learn was very basic and didn't help me design an interesting page as the cover suggests.

Summary: Superb book for beginners to Javascript
Review: Being totally new to Javascript I wanted a book that would teach me in an easy and simple way. This is that book! It gradually eases you into Javascript but at the same time allows you to get designing web content straight away. Well worth purchasing.

Summary: A really good JavaScript / DHTML book
Review: Nick shows you how to do this and that, step by step. See, he loves javascript, and it shows in his examples. Forget what the other people say, this book is worth the price :)

Summary: Could have been good
Review: What can I say?...this book is written by a 17 yr old...and it SHOWS. In the past 1 1/2 weeks I've struggled thought the first 21 pages and I've already ran across MANY confusing examples. For example. They give you code in green boxes and most of the time its supposed to work. Well..when you try it 1/2 the times it doesn't because you needed to add all of this other code that they don't tell you about. They tend to say "if you look at this simple code...its all you need" and like I said more often than not it isn't.
The ONLY people i would recommend this to are people who have a fare amount of JavaScripting behind them, because they will be able to recognize where they have presented the info in a confusing way, and hopefully they won't have to spend time browsing the CD for code examples.

Summary: A good book for diving into javascript.
Review: This book did a nice job of helping me get my feet wet using javascript. It encourages using example code and just getting out there and doing it. It should not be purchased as a reference book though. Anyone who wants to learn javascript might want to read this one first, to wet their appetite, then get a more comprehensive reference book afterwards.

Summary: The easiest book to the understanding of JavaScript
Review: This book is so easy to understand with well laid out text and clear pictures. Also included is a CD-ROM full of Javasript examples and a 30-day trail of Infuse JavaScript Editor. This Book is geared towards the novice computer user with some knowledge of how to create web pages.
