Summary: A great easy cook book
Review: Nigella Lawson is a good wholesome sort of cook, not interested in the glitzy, ritzy, fashionable, ego tripping and frankly bonkers style of cooking that is found in abundance in cook books these days, you know the sort of thing "sea bream in tangerine and peanut sauce on a bed of wilted dandelion leaves".
She seems by and large to be interested in nourishing and old school food, here she presents a collection of punchy and unfussy recipes in her usual twinkling and engaging format.
She is often accussed of being an ok cook and a great celebrity but I think this is nonsense, she is far to intelligent and interested by her craft to ever be intoxicicated by the cult of celebrity.
She writes wonderfully well, so much so that a large dilemma is often deciding whether to cook her food or just read about it novel style! The photography is splendid too, the food and Ms Lawson looking equally stunning and deleicious..

Summary: Irresistible and Inspiring Recipes
Review: "Nigella Bites" is the ultimate in cookbooks - the pictures alone are tempting enough to make you want to try the recipes. Although far from health conscious, the recipes use everyday ingredients that can be adapted to fit all manner of tastes and lifestyles. I bought the book ... before it was released here and I actually enjoy converting the recipes from metric; it makes me feel a part of the very English mystique that seems to surround Nigella and her view of food. The recipes come across more like guidelines than direct orders so don't be daunted by the degree to which recipes call for "full fat" this or that. There are some things that just cannot be substituted in certain situations, but I tweek many of the recipes to fit my low-fat way of cooking and the results have been spectacular! Besides, a full fat, full calorie treat is an occassional necessity and these are the recipes that one should turn to in those cases. Nigella's free-spirit and love of food comes through the book's pages and will inspire all who read it to get in there and start cooking!

Summary: I Love This Book!
Review: A lot has been said about Nigella Lawson's casual and conversational approach to writing her cookbooks, but I was still pleasantly surprised at how easy this book (and her others) was to read and to use as a tool.

She makes so many good points about the pleasures and perils of cooking, but her "just give it a shot" attitude and unapologetic style make you WANT to go in the kitchen and give things a try.

The only negative is that most of the recipes in here are high in starch and/or fat, but for those who eat for enjoyment and just want a fun and rewarding experience both in AND out of the kitchen, this is your book...

Summary: Just Like The Television Series
Review: Another wonderful book from Nigella. A very good read. I just wish she had included all the recipes from her series "Nigella Bites".

Summary: Real Comfort Food
Review: As a professional working chef. I've been impressed by Nigella Lawson approach to food, for several reason, like her I am Italian ( she is part italian but both our mothers are) Also for those people who think professional chef's cook at home like we do at work, HAHAHAHA fat chance, how often we come home and are satisfied by the cool simplicty of a bowl of cereal or a ham and cheese sandwhich. But since I have discovered Nigella my hame and cheese sandwhich has be morphed into her Mozzarella in Carroza ( Carroza means carriage dont ask I dont get it either)I just added some ... ham I got from the deli section of my local market. and it is good!, her recipies are all about the comfort and joy of what cooking should be, its not about food art which so many literary chef's seems to feel their dishes need to be, Not Nigella, her dinner parties are great no fancy dishes just a table set with warm candles alot of happy people great food and love ( thats an italian for you) Ive made almost all of the recipies in her book. The Chocolate Cake is incredible and easy to make. The Sticky toffee pudding is easy and incredible and I took her Ginger Jam bread pudding to work and it became a dessert for the days special and we sold out of it like you cannot imagine, its just really easy yummy simple food. The Salmon over the fresh greens is great the entire section called "Temple Food" is full of wonderful simple and mainly asian in flavor and low calorie dishes that comfort and soothe. The book has some clever names, I gotta admit trashy still cracks me up Ive made the fried peanut butter and banana sandwhich several time afte work with a tall ice cold glass of non fat moo( milk to y'a'll) its total yum! The Warm thai duck salad is easy and simple to make and excellent with thinly sliced london broil if you cant find duck. The Pasta and Meatballs is great, if you dont want to make your own pasta De Cecco Fettucini or Tagliatelli is a perfect subsitute. The Ham and Coca Cola and Sweet Corn pudding are tasty and perfect for the upcoming easter weekend. her recepies are simple and easy to follow, when I bought this book I bought it before it came out here, I got the UK version all in metric, I had to rely on my cooking school conversions but since its now available here, no conversions needed. Im amazed how much I go back to this book when I want to have some people over and throw something together that easy relaxed comforting and fun. Oh yeah the spiced nuts , make em for a party they will be gone in a flash they are so good. I just ordered her new book forever summer I look forward to that. I also hope style channel starts showing that series. Ive checked it out on her website over in England and it has the recepies available there according to color? I dont know what the deal is with the colors yet but Im sure I will find out when the book gets here

Summary: Only for those with way too much money on their hands
Review: First of all let me just say that I adore Nigella Lawson and would pretty much like to marry her book "How to be a domestic goddess" so it's not about wanting to bash her. She does a great show and has made some really great recipes but with this particular book I can only advise you to stay away....stay far away.

It is supposed to be 260 pages long but if you take out all the blank space, the "note pages", the empty (except for a few words in oversized print) pages which start off each chapter, and the sometimes 4(!) pages of pictures which accompany a single recipe then you're left with more like 70-80 pages of actual recipes. These are divided into chapters which follow the tv-series and this actually works quite well but there are just too few things to choose from within each segment. Some of the recipes are really, really good - like the "Orange breakfast muffins", the "Chocolate Cloud Cake", or the "Ham in Coca-Cola" - but all in all you're left with the impression that this book is nothing but a quick cash-in. Compared to "How to eat" and "How to be a domestic goddess" this book shows no soul and no heart and it seems that very little effort has gone into making it. It is such a shame when you know how wonderful she can be when she puts her mind to it.

Summary: Good enough for me!
Review: Having only seen Nigella's show once, when someone told me that this cookbook was a good way to get her recipes and narration, I looked into it.

I found a cookbook that is down to earth with a breezy, narrative style. I loved the titles of her sections (All Day Breakfast, Comfort Food, TV Dinners, Party Girl, Rainy Days, Trashy, etc.)

The photos were gorgeous and I appreciated the chatty introduction to most recipes. I also liked the pages at the ends of the chapters for my notes and comments.

I am sure this book will be well-used. All the recipes I have tried thus far have been great.

Summary: Love her show, didn't think much of the book
Review: I absolutely love her show on the Style network. I've watched her prepare so many recipes that i would love to try. I don't normally purchase cookbooks but loved her show so much that I made an exception. Bad exception. The book is nice but does not have very many recipes. For the price of the book, I would have expected much more. For this i gave it two stars. I've learned to go directly to the Style website for the recipes instead. The only caveat is that you must do so the same week she prepares the recipe on her show as the website does not catalog all of her recipes.

Summary: Nigella Rules!
Review: I admit that I started watching her show only because of seeing this incredibly beautiful woman on the screen. It was several minutes before I noticed the point of the show was cooking, and boy can she cook. She has the technical skills of any other gourmet, but she adds her personality to the meals that transfers very well from the screen to her books. She truly has fun and makes the reader enjoy following along. My wife and I have even enjoyed ourselves when we failed at one of her messy-style recipes. It doesn't matter, its all in good fun, and when success occurs, wow, it's a delight for the palate. Fortunately my wife is not the jealous type, and she happily accepts all of the Nigella books that I give to her. The book is well worth investing one's time, money, and enthusiasm.
