Rating: Summary: I would love you to read it Review: I haven't got it myself but my friend does and it is wonderfu
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: Ever wonder if "pathology" is a normative concept or an observer-independent fact about the biological world? Well, Martha tackles the problem with her usual gusto, pouring out recipe after recipe that speaks to this question and many more (including some that will help you entertain your hungry guests). Though tasty, her broccoli recipes really let my guests know up close and personal about what is normative and what is not: most of them spent the rest of the evening gobbling lomotil. Indeed, if you wonder about such things and are having a dinner or graduation party to boot, then get this book (you'll love the detailed photographs of diverticulitis).
Rating: Summary: Pretty Pictures and interesting recipes Review: That Martha. What a book! As soon as I got out of the bin I bought it and started sending hot hors d'oeuvres in business envelopes to the mayors of every important city in America. It was my way of demonstrating that, contrary to what Thomas Szasz has to say about the mentally "ill" like me, we are not malingerers. On the other hand, what would you expect from someone who ate tee fours like M & Ms before my incarceration? A gourmet chef? Well, perhaps, but this book has given a center to my life and I'm taking it to heart. In fact, I'm presently thinking of wrapping myself in bacon so that I can pass myself off as a lonely, but sincere scallop at the Woman's Club L'Affair Spring at the end of this month. I highly recommend this adorable book.
Rating: Summary: Well worth purchasing Review: I enjoyed the presentation of the recipes as well as trying some of them out. Some are easy to make, some require a bit more preparation and patience. But this is my favorite cooking teacher since the Oscar Gertner series some years ago.
Rating: Summary: Good choice between easy nibbles or time-consuming feats Review: I actually just reviewed this book as part of a summer cookbook roundup of around 20 books, and voted it the best in the lot. Why? I chose simple, quick recipes to make, and they all turned out perfectly. Guests actually asked me where I bought the gorgeous breadsticks (Martha's quick sticks). Made those in five minutes flat. I also made the blue cheese and pecan crackers (another five whole minutes out the window), the sesame crusted chicken sandwiches (my sister in law, who is a very picky eater, raved). I wasn't about to start filling grapes with cheese, or stuffing cherry tomatoes; that's just not me. But there are enough economical, easy dishes in here to suite even the kitchn tyro.
Rating: Summary: This is Martha's best book! Review: If you like to cook, and serve delicious, well-planned meals, this is your book for Hor D'Oeuvres. The book is an exhaustively complete work that will give you plenty of choices for your next party. This work covers quite a range. Some of the recipes are simple, and others, so complex that I will never make them. In my opinion, this provides something for everyone.
Rating: Summary: A beautiful book, I can't stop looking at it... Review: I love this book! The photography and presentation are both breathtaking. The format is totally perfect. The recipes are certainly mouth-watering. But. There is no possible way you could attend your own cocktail party if you made some of these recipes! You'd never leave the kitchen, really. No matter, though, the recipes are great and this book is a marvelous place from which to get inspiration. I don't see why people get so sarcastic and down on it -- some of us just prefer to live more gracefully than others.
Rating: Summary: Martha Stewart is the.... Review: Martha Stewart is the Dominatrix of do-it-yourself
Rating: Summary: Not practical, ingredients and tools needed are too costly Review: I hope to have some practical guide and recipes on hors d'oeuvres, but then how many of them in Martha's book can be actually used again and again? Many of them require special ingredients that are costly, require special tools that are also costly and has to be prepared right before the party. Come on, I cannot possibly do 8-10 kinds (yielding 2-3 bites per person) 2-3 hours before the party by myself!! (some of them even required to be served immediately). She doesen't even include the planning for the preparation of her menus (On The Asian Dumpling Party menu she mentioned,"dumplings... are the ultimate make-ahead food" -- but steaming dozens of dumplings 7-10 minutes before the party needs 3-5 bamboo steamers and pots and pans... not practical at all, certainly not make-ahead at all). Whereas for her "real" make ahead food such as crudites or pretzel bites, you don't need her costly book for the recipes. Besides that, the photos are tantalizing. But for the price of her book, I'd rather keep up with her website where she has some recipes for free. Also check out the Bon Apetit Magazine's web site for detailed planning and scheduling for any party menu they presented. This is only for those who has a lot of $dough$ to keep up with her costly ingredients and tools, plus has a lot of helping hands like Martha's own cooking crew on her studio.
Rating: Summary: I wish I had seen this book before. Review: I have a friend, Tom, who knows fish and bread better than anyone I have ever known, but even he can't come close to the recipes in Martha's newest book. The layout, presentation, and easy to follow instructions makes this book a "must have" on your shelf. Martha deserves six stars for this one. I wish I could have been there from the beginning to taste each and every recipe.
