Summary: Men should use this one.
Review: Although I am not an idiot in the kitchen, my expertise is mostly with those dishes that I learned as a child and requires recipes from memory. Past those items, I needed help. My wife is a great cook and she uses this book among others. I have found the book to be very easy to follow and complete in what it explains about the ingredients, and tools for cooking. Like any recipe, I try to be creative with adding or subtracting spices, but you will be satisfied if you adhere to the book's recipes. The pancakes and deserts are especially good and easy to achieve. This is a must for anyone interested in cooking.

Summary: A Must Have For Every Kitchen
Review: No kitchen should be without this book! This was my first cookbook when I moved on my own. When the ringbound version came out I had to have it. Now that I have been cooking for about 10 years and married the past 4 I have referred to the book for recipes that I perhaps would not have thought of.

There are numerous advantages to this book.

1. The ringbound version allows you to remove the necessary pages if you don't have room to prop the entire book.
2. The ingredients are usually things that you have in your pantry and it gives you different varieties and suggestions.
3. I personally like the table of contents for each section to make recipe finding easy.
4. The tutorial on different meats and cuts are helpful.
5. The quick and/or easy recipes are indicated as such so you can just skim through the pages and know which one to look at if you are in a hurry.

This book makes the perfect gift for anyone starting out, someone that does not have a lot of cooking experience or for the seasoned chef. This book has it all!!

Summary: The idiot's guide to cooking
Review: With essential recipes like how to bake a cake from a mix (no joke!) and insightful "emergency" tips like how to substitute artificial bacon bits if you run out of bacon (again, no joke!), this cookbook ought to be called "The idiot's guide to cooking".

Though the writers devote lots of space to cooking with processed, consumer-product foods, they don't spare much room for vegetarian, vegan, low-fat or other generally healthy cooking techniques. Even the most basic dishes are loaded with fat: the waffle recipe calls for half a cup of oil -- 115 grams of fat or 1000 calories right there!

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This cookbook is excellent. I've made many meals using this book. The chicken marsala is one of my favorites. Since many of us are health conscious, many of the recipes have a low fat option which I love.

The only problem I've experienced is the pages getting dirty from use! But, the pages are much easier to turn since they are in a binder. I give this book two thumbs up!

Summary: Terrific
Review: I remember sifting through the pages of my mom's older version of this cookbook some twenty-five years ago, It was good then and is great now. I like the variety of not only American, but also international recipes found in it. Anything I've made has turned out delicious. The steps are explained very clearly for anyone who's not an expert in the kitchen. Another feature which I like living abroad is the fact that there is a metric conversion chart. There is also a section which gives advice on substituting certain major ingredients, which may not be easily found abroad, or for emergency situations when you can't run out to the store.

Summary: THE staple in my Kitchen!
Review: When I got married 8 years ago , the only thing I could cook was spaghetti ( in a jar). THIS BOOK is what taught me how to cook everything! It is not only a book of recipes but shows cooking techniques, what to have in your kitchen and SO MUCH MORE! This book is an absolute must have for every bride or anyone that wants to really learn how to cook. The way that this is bound and has platic coated pages is great too because cooking gets messy especially when you a learning. No, I dont think this is gourmet stuff and if that is what you want then maybe you should look elsewhere.. But for REAL COoking .. This is the standard of cookbooks. I thank you Better Homes and Gardens for teaching me to COOK and my husband thanks you too!

Summary: Great cook book
Review: I found this cook book to be very good. It not only gave me confidence in the kitchen but it made my family enjoy my cooking more. I also used the following which helped me around the kitchen:
Study Guide for Baking: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Melissa Heilman
I found the second book to help me with baking recipes. Both books are must buys.

Summary: Couldn't be without
Review: I have quite a collection of cookbooks (60+), but if I could only have one, this would be it. Reliable recipes from the most basic (e.g. hard boiled eggs) to recipes that are more involved are at your fingertips. A must for anyone.

Summary: Back to Basics
Review: I was quite young when I received this cookbook, actually it was my first book. I truly enjoy cooking, and always look for new food ideas. You can't imagine the many times I have resorted back to "Better Homes and Gardens" book. It has receipts that are very tasty just as given in the book, or you can add or take ingredients out as you please. I have many other cookbooks written by the famous, but I always go back to this one.
