Summary: Excellent Cookbook
Review: I have an older version of this cookbook that does not have the ring binder. I wish it did, because I have used it so much that the pages are falling out. It is an excellent cookbook. I really love "Better Homes and Gardens" series books. They are wonderful recipes that are simple, practical, economical, and taste delicious. This book has wonderful information in it about cooking in general like weights and measures and other useful tips.

I highly recommend this cookbook to anyone, advanced cooks as well as people just learning to cook.

Summary: Great Cookbook!
Review: I'm a beginning cook, and I just got married. I love this cookbook. Out of any other cookbook that I have, the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook has consistently great tasting recipes. I highly recommend the beef and vegetable soup. Stir-fry is good too. Excellent. This is a great overall cookbook.

Criticism: Sometimes the ingredient lists are somewhat long but it is all worth it and the ingredients aren't hard to find. I hope that when they eventually re-make this book that they'll take out the sections on veal and pork, and expand their vegetable and chicken sections. In fact, I hope that they come out with a cookbook just on chicken and vegetarian dishes. Overall, the book is great and even has wonderful dessert recipes.

Summary: Just like Grandma!!!
Review: I remember this cookbook from my Grandmothers house. Now I have my own, and it's even better now!! It still has some of the great recipes my Grandma's copy has, and some brand new, soon to be favorites in my house. This is the essential cookbook for every cook to have.

Summary: great reference
Review: This is a handy reference for cooks just starting out and for those with experience too. This was the first cookbook I ever bought. It tells you how to cook most anything. A great all around cookbook to keep on hand.

Summary: Great All Around Cookbook
Review: We recieved this cookbook, 4 1/2 years ago, as a housewarming gift. I use it a lot, more than my other cookbooks. I came here today to look for the 3 ring binder edition, as my paper back is losing pages!!! I can't wait to order this book and put it to more good use. I would reccomend this to any cook, novice or experienced!!!

Summary: Three ring binder edition of BH & G cookbook - Yes!
Review: I purchased the three ring binder edition of this cookbook because my old version (paperback) was ready to bite the dust. If I was going to buy a new one, I figured I may as well get a new and improved version.

This three ring binder edition is excellent. Not only does the blinder lay flat (this is how my paperback got so shot - breaking the spine to try and keep it open - which never worked anyway) but the updated instructions for both food processors and the microwave are a big plus in today's kitchens.

For years I had a cookbook by Betty Crocker that came in a binder and that darn binder was a pain. It was set off center supposedly to make the pages turn more easily. Well, the pages never turned easily and the darn thing *never* lay flat. Good News! This one does.

Let me explain what I like most about this cookbook (any version). I was born to cook. I rarely follow a recipe exactly. For example: it doesn't take much for an experienced cook to figure out the basic ingredients in a potato salad (even if they never made it before) --potatoes and mayonnaise. But what seasonings would be good in your potato salad? What kind of vegies might you use to enhance your salad other than onions? Most experienced cooks realize that finding "your" best recipe requires experimentation. I can usually figure out the basic recipe behind anything I taste or I can fake it and concoct a virtual clone. Still I find recipes invaluable tools to use as the basis of any food creation. This is what I most enjoy about the BH&G New Cookbook. It has *all* the basics one could want as reference.

Summary: Best basic cookbook you can own
Review: I love this cookbook. When I moved out on my own, this was the first one I bought. My mom has her copy from when she moved out of HER parent's house, and i loved that one when I was a kid. The newer prints are even better, with more nutrition information and suggestions.

Summary: My very favorite cookbook!
Review: My very favorite cookbook! I used it for years until my old copy fell apart, and nothing else has compared. I just had to get another copy so that I could have the basic information most cookbooks just don't have, and so I could transfer my favorite recipes into my Taste of Home software. I was glad to be able to get it used, but if you've never used this cookbook before there is a brand new version that has just come out that I would highly recommend. Go for it!

Summary: AN OLD-TIME FAVOURITE!
Review: This book would make a perfect gift for someone who is not yet feeling quite "at home in the kitchen." It is a basic, straight-forward, simple to understand cookbook with lots of facts on planning menus and proper nutrition. We have often heard the saying of an inexperienced person in the kitchen, "He or she would not know how to boil water!" Well, this book will tell you how to do such simple things as boil an egg and have it come out the way you want it - softboiled or hardboiled. There is a section dealing with various cuts of meats that will help the reader to understand which ones make great stews and pot roasts, and which ones provide the more tender, lean oven roasts. If you have a sweet tooth, you will learn everything from how to make a pie crust (easier said than done the first time around) for that scrumptous apple pie, to how to make some of your favourite candies. This book comes highly recommended and is one you will likely keep in your kitchen even after you have gathered experience and progressed to more complex, detailed recipes.

Summary: Best Cookbook Ever
Review: If you want a good basic cookbook that covers every type of food.
Nothing beats this cookbook. And the recipes never turn out wrong.
