Rating: Summary: The Cadillac of cookbooks Review: The mack daddy of all cookbooks, the innovator, the numero uno, this cookbook has been around forever. I inherited my grandmother's "picture" version of this cookbook a few years back and with the exception of the pictures, not a whole lot has changed. This wonderful cookbook includes most basic recipes, including chicken broth, mashed potatoes and meatloaf. You can't go wrong with buying this, it is worth every penny.
Rating: Summary: BHand Garden New Cook Book Review: I liked the cookbook but the construction of the book physically doesn't stand up to the kitchen use! The Spine's clips is made of plastic and has broken off therefore the binder will not hold the cover to the looseleaf binder! This occurred within a year of use! I don't recommend buying the book for this reason since we have these cookbooks for life and it's a bad reflection for durablity! Sincerely, Rosalind Luzzi

Rating: Summary: Every kitchen needs one. Review: I give this at just about every wedding shower I go to. It has several reference areas that cover all of the basics, including information on cuts of meat, definitions, photos of different cutting techniques, etc. I use the index constantly. When I need to make dinner and have no clue where to start. I open the cabinets or the fridge, see what I have then look those ingedients up in the index. Walla, I usually find something. It has saved me many times. I have a friend who's been using this book for over 25 years. I bought her the newer version, and she was happy to see that the cookbook is more heart healthy these days. She won't throw out the old one, but she loves the new one. Happy cooking!
Rating: Summary: Best Cookbook I've Ever Found Review: This is my favorite cook book. It has a recipe for just about anything I would ever think to make (and a lot more), and the food always comes out excellent (more than I can say for some). Basically, this may be the only cook book most people ever need -- I wouldn't miss any of my others if I still had this one, but this book would be lost. Actually, this is probably the most useful non-proffessional book I own. If you enjoy cooking and baking, or just need to prepare meals, this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Better Homes & Gardens New Cook Book Review: I have a previous addition of this book in paperback that is now about 15 years old. I have used it so much it is falling apart. So, I have ordered a new, updated version in the 3 ring binder format so i can have it forever (and wipe off spills). I always find quick and easy recipes to use over and over. Or even ones that are basic that I can build on. I recommend this cook book for all beginners.
Rating: Summary: My Cooking Bible Review: Ever wish you had a cookbook that you could turn to for just about everything? This is the one. Not only does it have a vast collection of recipes, it also has pictures, easy to read instructions, and more. This book will actually teach you how to cook by guiding you through various cooking techniques. I highly recommend this book to anyone just starting out. You will not be disappointed with this one.
Rating: Summary: Best cookbook to give those outside of US Review: I gave this book and Betty Crocker Cookbook to my sister-in-law living in Pakistan. She wanted to learn some "basic" American cooking, or I should say the "melting pot" cooking we have. She enjoys them both as do I . . . I seem to collect a lot of cookbooks -- but when asked by her to send some reflecting American cooking these were the two I chose.
Rating: Summary: A kitchen essential Review: I'm sure I'm biased because it was my mother's staple cookbook, but this book is the anchor of my rapidly growing cookbook shelf. I love cookbooks, but BH&G is the one that I use the most often (the rest tend to have one or two recipes that I like). BH&G is the place that I always start looking for how-to instructions. Every cook needs to know the basics, and this is where to find them. A great reference!
Rating: Summary: The American classic I keep running back to! Review: I own about 30 cookbooks, yet I use this one most of the time. I learned to cook with my mom and this book, and when my younger sister (who never liked to venture into the kitchen) got married this book transformed her into a great cook. Many of the recipes are timeless American classics (tested and tried in the Better Homes and Gardens kitchens - these folks know their stuff). When living on my own for the first time in my early twenties I ambitiously invited 8 guests for Thanksgiving dinner - then panicked. However, this book allowed me to create a traditional turkey dinner that impressed everyone - and what is so amazing is that while it was quite a bit of preparation for me, it was actually simple due to this book. I also love all the new updated recipes, and all the helpful guidelines that round out this cook book into a must have in every home.
