Summary: I'm sorry
Review: I'm sorry y'all, I went to NOLA, and it was terrible. I've watched Emeril for awhile on FoodTV, and I always thought his restaurants would be heaven. I went with a girlfriend named Sally, and we both agreed that it was the worst evening we've EVER had a at a restaurant. Everything that he had talked about on his show that looked so good was horribly over-seasoned. I thought that I was going to be sick. The 'smashing mashed potatoes' just about made us both sick. I bought this book before I went to his place, but I am going to give it away. I'm sorry that I made the mistake of thinking that he was a good chef. This was the worst. I grew up in Louisiana, and I thought that maybe some of his innovations would be as good as what I gew up with, but they weren't. This was NOTHING like what I remembered. Save your money and don't buy this book. Some of the things he writes about in his book are served at his place. Save your money and stay away. Otherwise, you may get sick.

Summary: You can do SO MUCH BETTER...
Review: Let me tell you, I've eaten at all of New Orleans' big restaurants, and Emeril's places (Emeril's and Nola) are highly overrated. As you may have figured out if you are familiar with Lagasse, he doesn't cook authentic Cajun or Creole cuisine, but his own, modern, "Emerilized" versions of dishes. The common thread among all of them? They're all EXTREME. His style is flavor overkill. Don't get me wrong, his food isn't AWFUL, but certainly, he falls flat on his face with as many experiments as he succeeds. Some of his combos of flavors just don't come off. There are some winners but it's pretty hit or miss and, when you couple this with his own cretinous personality (a trait many of his loyal follwoing share, as well), this may well be a cookbook author many discerning foodies may want to avoid. For how to cook sophisticated, thoughtful, and delicious New orleans cuisine, try Paul Prudhomme's books, as well as the tomes from the famed restaurant's Antoine's, Brennan's (titled "Breakfast at Brennan's and Dinner, Too"), and the Commander's Palace Cookbook. Also seek out books by Alex Patout. However, though the restaurant Galatoire's is another great, famed locale, it's cookbook doesn't do the food justice. Dooky Chase's also has a cookbook out which I have not looked through, but, hey, it's worth a shot.

Summary: A problem with Emeril
Review: I don't know who this Sharon person is, but she strikes me as being the typical Emeril fan. The way I see it, there are two points of view on Emeril. One is that he is the greatest chef to have ever lived. Everything he creates is perfection, and that he is the only one who knows the true way to prepare food. Emeril should also be held above criticism, because he entertains these people and guides their every move in the kitchen. On the other side, you have people who are not impressed with Emeril, who do not think that everything he does is the greatest. They do not necessarily enjoy watching his show, and think that BAM should be scaled way back. If those who do not like what Emeril does, or didn't like his book want to complain, that is fine. For those who can't handle criticism of their idol Emeril, you should be the ones who lighten up a little. Not everyone in life is going to look through the same narrow view as you. In addition, just because they don't care for Emeril doesn't mean that they aren't out having fun. So, to Sharon, why don't you ease up and go do a little research on cooking. Maybe you will find that there are a LOT more ways to make dinner than the Emerilized way.

Summary: BAM BAM BAM
Review: This is the best book ever. Go buy one for yourself and one for each of your friends. I'm looking to retire early and I need everyone to do their part and buy as many books as possible. I've got my eye on a really cool boat, so I'm thinking of throwing together another book real soon. Maybe I'll just repackage all of my old recipes and make it look new. Just be sure to keep watching the show and buying the books. I want that boat!

Summary: Wake Up And Smell Emeril's Food!
Review: Boy, it is a good thing I do not know this person named Brian Maloney from Colorado. We might not get along. Does he not know how to have fun? Too bad for him, because it sounds as if he may be just a little jealous of Emeril. Lighten up Brian! Emeril Lagasse is a talented person who worked very hard to get where is is now. I wish there were more people like Emeril in the world...having fun doing what they like best. I love his cooking shows and plan to throw an "Emerilized" party, guided by "Every Day's a Party. It's a wonderful book with fantastic recipes. Brian, put a smile on your face and go with the flow...you'll live longer. Eating Emeril's food might help to brighten your life, if you would give it a chance. Relax, and enjoy.

Summary: Excellent, Informative, Great Recipes
Review: I loved this book. It has stories about Emeril's background, history, what goes on in Louisiana all throughout the year, his Mom and Dad (Hilda and John) and pictures. I really like some of the recipes - I haven't tried them all of course, but the ones I have are great - especially some of the desserts! Even if you don't ever make the recipes, read the stories about each month and his background....if you watch Emeril every night like I do, you'll love it!

Summary: Enough with the Bam
Review: Ok, this guy has some good recipes but enough with the baming. My sister got me this for Kwanzaa and its nice with good stuff, but its more about his personality than food. He should get back to the basics

Summary: Why all of the hype?
Review: I just don't get what all of the hype is about! I have watched Emeril several times and have been anything but impressed with his abilities as a chef. What is it about his schtick that gets everyone so worked up? Do any of you actually think that people in New Orleans eat food like he prepares? Emeril seems to be incapable of producing a simple, straightforward dish. A hamburger to him would consist of everything in the pantry except a bun and beef patty. I read this book, and it is no different. On New Years eve, one of my friends who is an Emeril fanatic insisted on preparing an 'Emerilized' dinner for the party. Needless to say most of the food was overseasoned glop. After a while, it became apparent that nobody was interested in eating 'Emerilized' food and instead ordered pizzas. Emeril is not God, nor is he a genius, and definitely not a chef. He is a performer who happens to have made his money playing with food on TV. Save yourselves the money and eventual embarassment. Learn for yourselves how to cook and don't let yourselves be influenced by this con artist.
