Rating: Summary: Her recipes are as vibrant and wonderful as the cover Review: Mollie Katzen does something very very few vegetarian cooks and cookbook writers do, and that is make non-meat meals a pleasure and something that men relish. And my men were reluctant converts to non-meat meals. But her recipes were a major help in swaying them.I first became aware of her years ago when she came out with what we called the MOOSEBOOK (Moosewood Cookbook) but it wasn't until her STILLLIFE WITH MENU cookbook and I then seeing her on the San Franciso PBS KQED Saturday pledge break special that I then fell in love with her as a person and wished I knew her as a friend. She has what we call a balance of energy. Vibrant yet calming. So the STILL LIFE WITH MENU got a massive work out and the VEGETABLE HEAVEN came out and in my opinion she deserves praise for having a cookbook with recipes and other delights that lives up to the title. I mean, just look at the vibrant cover of the cookbook. She carries that vibrant path, into some of the best food you will ever savor. She does all her own illustrations which should better be termed art work. And, something that people should be reminded of is the connection between art, food, and spirituality. Think of your favorite work of art that has food in it and you have this woman.Think of your favorite (positive)movie with food as a major theme and you have this woman. (Animal House does not count)Her recipes are easy to follow. Now, living in California I know I am spoiled as everything listed is easily obtainable. But most of her recipes have items that are. My husband and son like her recipes because they taste and look good and are not the predictable "vegetarian/vegan" fare. And men often have the hardest time evolving to a non meat diet. But if someone simply makes three days per week Molly Katzen days they will discover that three days are not enough. Happy eating. Happy life.
Rating: Summary: Mollie's best so far! Review: Mollie really scores a hit with this book! Let's remember that I'm not a vegetarian, yet I found myself reading every page! Her sauces are wonderful and if you have never tried roasted asparagus, you are in for a treat! Out of the more than three shelves of cookbooks in our kitchen, this ranks as one of the best.
Rating: Summary: The most fun with food I've had! Review: Molly Katzen is so creative with her cooking ideas. She is able to create actual art with these recipies. My husband is a real "meat-and-potatoes" kind of guy but he loves the lentil dish with roasted tomatoes and caramelized onions with carribean rice pilaf!
Rating: Summary: Inventive and Delicious! Review: My husband and I are not vegetarian but enjoy vegetarian cooking. We get a box of organic produce from a local farm every two weeks and look for novel dishes in which to use them. Roasted Eggplant Strata is out of this world. I've made Bitter Greens with Sweet Onions and Tart Cheese over pasta more times than I can count. The Coconut-Lime Rice is ravishing. The roasted red pepper and walnut paste is as good as aioli. The Stovetop Cassoulet could have had more depth of flavor for the amount of work. I had trouble today with Mollie's coconut macaroon recipe. Luckily she makes herself available for questions on molliekatzen.com via a bulletin board.* I highly recommend this book for those who want to eat well and healthfully. *She did indeed reply; the trouble was my oven!
Rating: Summary: Ditto Review: Others have said it before me - another great book by Molly Katzen. This one got the Julia Child cookbook award which says a lot in itself. I've had great success with every recipe I've tried. Buy it, you'll like it!

Rating: Summary: Yum, Yum. Review: The first thing I noticed about Mollie Katzen's book was the brightness of it. The vivid yellow cover of this larger than life book covers a multitude of dishes that are categorized with color bands on the edges of the pages. The multitalented Mollie Katzen also does the wonderful artwork included in the book. After reading it, I believe Vegetable Heaven's appearance would attract the most impressive cooks attention, and the contents would earn their utmost respect. Ms. Katzen covers recipes from appetizers to soups to main dishes to condiments and more. She even includes her popular 26-minute menu from the Mollie Katzen cooking show, Vegetable Heaven. The recipes go a step further than most, and there is enough variety to please everyone in the family. Personally speaking, I am impressed with her meatless main dish ideas that have the ability to fill up the heartiest meat eater (my husband) and make him happy. As for myself, I am always eating the side dishes in an attempt to satisfy the vegetable / fruit eater in me, but it was never enough. Ms. Katzen has shown me that vegetables and fruits are meant for more than side dishes. There are 200 recipes of different varieties and taste to please even the most difficult palette.
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointing Paintings & Not 1 Recipe Photo Review: There is no 'Luminosity' (as promised) in any of her paintings, most of which are too dark, drab, and unbelievably BORING, and seem like the worse left-overs from 'Still Life Cookbook'. The editorials should not have said 'luminous' about her 'new' mud paintings, which also, are 70% laughably small sized. Oh, why had I so blindly ordered this book over the web!
Rating: Summary: Creative Healthy Cuisine Review: This cookbook provides many fabulous recipes for very healthy meatless meals that are loaded with flavor (try the Persian Kidney Beans) without having excessively long lists of ingredients. Katzen provides a lot of useful information about preparation time and shortcuts.
Rating: Summary: Tasty Simple Creative Delicious! Go Molly! Review: This is a very well thumbed cookbook in my house. We are not vegetarians but I have prepared many of the recipes for my family and they have been well received. I like the fact that Katzen's recipes have become so much more light and sophisticated and also more flavourful than those in her earlier cookbbooks-they relied too heavily on cheese and fat. The "Bulgur Noodles" alone are worth the price of this book. They are amazing! I also appreciate the sidebar tips and suggestions. The artwork is very attractive, as is the layout in general. The lack of photographs is not a problem-just watch the series on television.
