Rating: Summary: June 16, 1999 I'm a Professional Baker and Review: I have always insisted on baking with only the finest ingredients whenever possible, including real butter, fresh cream and extra sugar in everything. Not only are the recipes in this book delicious, but it's the best reading and most fun I've had with any other recipe book. Thank You Rosie!
Rating: Summary: wow. Review: I have only made two things from this book, but they both were so consistently GREAT that I can't wait to start something else! The Cream Cheese Pound Cake melts in your mouth! I LOVE to bake and have finally found a book I can trust to make moist, tasty goodies! GET AND USE THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Never a miss Review: I have used several recipes so far from this book, and both the Ginger Snappers and Lemon Cake Cookies were wonderful. Both contained plenty of butter and sugar, but did not turn out heavy or dense. Perfection. (And I am not usually a "perfect" baker!)
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book Review: I just tried Rosie's Famous Sour Cream Layer Cake and topped it with her Fudge Filling and the results were fantastic. The cake was wonderfully moist and the filling just divine. I got rave reviews from all my friends for this cake and I am looking forward to trying more recipes from her book.
Rating: Summary: If you are a better than average baker.... Review: I own many baking books... and I really wish I had NOT paid for this one. Every cake I tried came out like a dense biscuit with a heavy baking soda taste. Cakes are hard to make from scratch, but there are better books out there. It's a bland book.
Rating: Summary: This is the baking book I use time and time again. Review: I use this book to make the greatest brownies (chocolate orgasims), and delicious cakes and cookies. This book is used so often that the pages are so worn and tattered. My friends and family actually think I am a great baker thanks to Rosie's recipes. I have given this book as gifts for the holidays, and they have been hits each time. I am now using Rosie's COOKIE book, and enjoying that one just as much.
Rating: Summary: Fabulously Moist Cakes Review: I'm a semi-professional baker with 15 wedding cakes under my belt, and the owner of many baking books, including The Cake Bible. I consistently use Rosie's recipes, modifying them to bake anywhere from a 6" to a 16" cake. The sour cream chocolate cake is absolutely the best I have ever tasted, and I am constantly trying new recipes. You can bake this cake 2 to 3 days ahead and it still is moist and delicious. If you own only one baking book, this is the one!
Rating: Summary: Best Brownie Recipe Around! Review: If nothing else, you must try Rosie's award-winning brownie recipe at least once!!! They are phenomenal! It is the perfect combination of fudginess with the right amount of chewiness / gooeyness. Rosie's Boom-Boom's on the following page add a cheesecake-like topping which gets swirled in and that dessert is to die for too!! The stories added on to each recipe are cute, and the recipes I have made (mostly from the cookies and bars sections of her book) have been fairly uncomplicated and turned out delicious every time!
Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: If you like homemade satisfying sweets, this is your cookbook! The author makes it interesting with her down-to-earth comments, and the recipes are very easy to follow. I have had success with nearly all the recipes I have tried---the chocolate layer, carrot-pineapple cake, cream cheese poundcake, yellow layer, and the Soho globs are very good. The brownies were a little intense for me; however, that recipe would certainly please the "serious" dark chocolate eater. You won't go wrong on this book---enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Rich Decadent Desserts! Best Brownie Recipe in The World! Review: If you make anything from this book for someone, they will think you are a fabulous baker! Rosie's desserts are so wonderful it's impossible to describe them in words. The recipes are extremely easy to follow. The brownies are fudgy and rich. The Chocolate Mouse Pie in Toasted Pecan Crust is dark and dense. The Broubon Bread Pudding melts in your mouth and the Traditional Cheesecake a' la Reuben's is so creamy. The techniques in this cookbook are so clearly explaned even an inexpierenced cook will have fantastic success with the recipes.
