Summary: My copy is well worn and cherished
Review: This collection of cookie recipes is one I return to again and again throughout the year. Not only has every execution of each recipe achieved perfection, but each one is presented with absolute clarity. In particular, I appreciate that the ingredient measures are also given in weights (ounces and grams), a system I prefer in baking where measurements are critical. The only complaint I have is with Willaim Morrow, the publisher. The book is shoddily constructed and sections fall out easily...my edition is in about twelve pieces. A book as good as this one deserves better binding.

Summary: the best cookie book ever!
Review: This cookie book is a must!

Summary: Excellent! Perfect! The best cookie book.
Review: This is a fabulous cookie cookbook!

The layout is easy to read and Rose Levy Beranbaum gives you two ways to make all of the cookies - the mixer or the food processor. The food processor worked perfectly.

Try the ginger pennies. They have become a new tradition for the holidays in our family.

I bake a lot of cookies especially at the holidays and this is by far one of the best cookie cookbook I have found.

Summary: watch out for the buttercrunch recipe!
Review: This is an excellent cookie book and every cookie I've made from it has been outstanding. Unfortunately, there's one recipe that temps me over and over again -- even though I've failed at it everytime. It's a divine-looking recipe for a chocolate- and almond-topped toffee called Mahogany Buttercrunch. It looks so-o-o tempting. Unfortunately, I am a novice at candymaking and every attempt to prepare this recipe has been an ignominious failure. I even went out and bought a professional candy thermometer -- didn't help.

The instructions are pretty skimpy and don't tell you anything about how (or if) it's possible to rescue the toffee if the sugar crystalizes or the butter separates out (both have happened to me). I've tried to supplement my knowledge by going to candymaking sites on the internet, but they're full of conflicting advice. I should avoid hot days, damp days; I should use a wooden spoon to stir the mixture; I should raise the temperature under the pot and stir continuously; I should lower the temperature and stir as little as possible. If the butter separates, try dumping in a half cup of very hot water; no -- add a little bit of hot water a tablespoon at a time; no -- do nothing but keep cooking and stirring, it might go back in by itself.

My advice is to buy the book and make the cookies. However, unless you have candymaking experience, don't attempt the Buttercrunch!

Summary: Best Cookie Recipes Available Anywhere
Review: This is by FAR the best cookie cookbook available anywhere. Incredible. I just made the toffee tonight, and i still can't believe that it came out of my kitchen.

Unfortunately, I have also experienced the problems with the binding. My book is falling apart, and i am going to have to buy another copy. The thought of losing some pages and having the book go out of print is just horrifying.

Has anyone passed these complaints about the binding on to the publisher?

Summary: Excellent!! Wish she would write a sequel!!
Review: This is such a great book for serious cookie bakers. I bake hundreds of cookies each holiday season, and I love all the extra info you get on how to store and how long the cookies stay good. I start baking the freezable cookies in october, then follow with cookies the book says will stay long at room temp, and so on and so on. The only negitive thing I can say is I have baked almost all the cookies in the book many times over, and would love a sequel to this book, so I can try some new ones!!!

Summary: Too good to do without!!!
Review: This is such a wonderful book that someone borrowed mine and never returned it so I have to order a new one! I completely agree with the other reviewers about the great results you can achieve with this book. I suggest that those who were unsatisfied with their cookies make sure that they use exactly the specified ingredients, follow the instructions to the letter, check their oven temp and make any needed adjustments for altitude. I have never had a failure using this book. Mine disappeared before the binding could fail so I can't comment on that issue. I also love Rose's Pie and Pastry Bible.

Summary: Simply the best
Review: This is the first place I look to when people ask for a cookie or bar recipe. It's simple yet not your ordinary recipes. I especially like the storage tips. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who's book is falling apart.

Summary: the ultimate cookie book
Review: This is the greatest cookie book ever. Particularly useful are the freezing and keeping instructions. I've never made a bad cookies from this book. Unfortunately it is so cheaply constructed that I am forced to buy a second copy, because I lost a vital page from my first copy. Is this a plot? It's worth it anyway

Summary: The best holiday cookie book, EVER!
Review: This is the most concise, clearly written cookie book that I've ever come across. Rose includes photos of every cookie (so you know what it's supposed to look like) and gives the best directions. And the cookies are all delicious
