Summary: What's this book about?
Review: It seems that Gilles Château worried more about remarking the history of his Montreux Communauté and student time rather than bringing us any new fact about Led Zeppelin.

Being honest, I expected much more from this book. For example, interviews with Jimmy, Robert, Jonesy and Bonzo, pictures of their stay in Switzerland, etc, etc.

I really don't care about the local scene, since it seems to be OBVIOUS that, in the early '70s, the hippie thing was wide spread over Europe. What I wanted to see/read was something I didn't know about LZ, specially in '72, which I consider an important turning point in their careers.

It means that only the hardest Zepheads will find this book useful in some way, like knowing petty details, such as their setlists, etc. Definetely, not a best-buy.

Summary: A UNIQUE CHAPTER OF ROCK HISTORY
Review: LOVED IT! This book is for advanced fans who can actually READ a book. I enjoyed learning about the Montreux hippie commune and the part Zep helped to play in the city's growth into what it is today. Excellent rare pictures and layout as well.

Summary: Led Zep put Montreux on the map!
Review: The brief of this book is simple - to explain how Led Zeppelin's appearances at Montreux enabled the venue to come to the forefront as THE place to play. The book fills in the gaps about the band's performances and how the local atmosphere created unforgettable memories for all its participants. The authors of the book cover what it sets out to do very well and it is the only place that this part of Led Zeppelin's history is covered at all. That detail and photographs put you in the center of the action. If you're a REAL fan of Zep, this book will be an essential part of your collection. Period!

Summary: Good Era Pix, but Little Insights on Zep
Review: This book consists of high quality black and white, glossy photos of Montreux at or about the time Zep played there in the early `70's, the members of a "commune" of groupies who apparently saw the shows, and some killer pix of Jimmy, Robert, with a couple of Bonzo and JPJ. That's about it. There really is nothing of substance about any of the shows (aside from the dates they were performed, and a tasty tid bit on there being professional recordings of them that are locked up somewhere!), which was a bit disappointing to me. Of particular interest to me was the story about recording Bonzo's Montreux, and how Jimmy and Bonzo got it together on that piece. It's too bad the book didn't contain more insightful, first hand substance like that. I think I figured out why this book is endorsed by Jimmy Page - part of it's proceeds goes to a charity supported by Jimmy. If you are looking for a book providing quality text about the Montreux shows, this isn't it (maybe Dave Lewis' "The Concert File" will satsify that need). If you're looking for more of a retrospective on this exciting time, and place, in music history, then this is a cool book to have. Either way, it's vital for the complete Zep library.

Summary: At least it's about Led Zeppelin
Review: This is a book for hardcore Led Zeppelin collectors only. The photos are black and white and pretty unspectacular. If you've read 'Led Zeppelin: The Press Reports' by Robert Godwin, you won't find anything new here, except for a drawn out tribute to the concert organizers and their hippie friends, and a travel brochure description of the picturesque city of Montreux. The prose is high school level English. The good thing about this book is some of the money goes to charity.

Summary: Valuable Creation
Review: What a fabulous book! The photography is spectacular! I enjoyed the journey to the years of 1970, 1971, and 1972. Learning about Montreux, Swizerland was fun. Considering Page and Plant just recently performed in Montreux, Switzerland on July 7, 2001 the book is fresh and timely. Chateau and Rapallo have created something beautiful here that compliments the music that Led Zeppelin created. Nice that proceeds go to Page's charity.
