Summary: Interesting...
Review: First of all, I have to disagree with the self-righteous hard-line fans who said that we are all violating Kurt, etc. He had been quoted in interviews stating that someday he was interested in publishing his diaries, and often encouraged people to read them. That said, while this has some importance as an artifact, I didn't find it very revealing about him. If you're looking for true insight, go read the excellent and objective (something I think a lot of people aren't willing to be in regards to the history of Nirvana) Heavier Than Heaven. Kurt just came off as a sweet, empathetic, angry, ambitious kid-the kind of guy I would have had a crush on in high school. Plus there was something very endearing seeing his letters to some of his musical heroes, and I had no idea just how talented an artist he really was. However, I also wish that there was more mention of inter-band dysfunctions near the end and something that would shed more light on his marriage to Courtney. If only just to shut up the people who like to believe in the whole "St. Kurt/Anti-Christ Courtney" thing.

Summary: What a awful piece of crap!
Review: I think this book is terrible. There are just some things a person should never write down on paper. We all have some pretty weird thoughts at times, but we dont write them down so some day a person that doesnt have our best interests at heart can publish them for her own personal gain.YUCK:(-...I noticed there wasnt one word in this book to make you know who look bad in any way.How can she sleep at nights...The only good thing to come out of all the wasted time I spent on this book was I didnt pay for it.I work at a book store so I borrowed it.If I see any one even interested in it I will tell them dont bother it sucks.

Summary: Journals are very exciting
Review: The journals are very exciting. When the idea first came out I thought what a terrible act. (one that is certainly out of greed) well the more I read the more I realized its less and less about greed. But more and more about "clearing things up" seems like one way to "display" how SUICIDAL kurt was. Is it possible it is just another ploy in the murder mystery scandal to take heat off the usual suspects? I was very dissapointed in kurts portral, but HIS journals are excellent, ONLY because they are his.

Summary: if this is an invasion of privacy
Review: what was anne frank's diary?

that is celebrated.

Summary: Exploitive and disappointing
Review: It's not difficult to believe the young publishing gatekeepers in New York, similar to the young filmmaking gatekeepers in Hollywood, would think this peek inside a troubled young musicman's heart and mind is gonna be a big-seller. And they're probably right becauser that's been a good recipe for success in the past, from Elvis to Jim Morrison to Janis Joplin. But it's difficult to see what good can come of these diaries. Reading them, there's a sense of voyeurism more than purpose. Should we not be improved by such a painful tale?

Let's hope we all have people in our lives who will guard our memories better than Kurt Cobain's survivors have done with his.

Summary: Don't buy this book....
Review: It's creepy to think of all the people who will buy this book and read his thoughts and feelings, people who don't care at all and will display this book somewhere to show how cool they are. If you are a true fan of Kurt Cobain or Nirvana, then please don't buy this book. How cold and heartless for the book to even have been made in the first place. Leave the dead alone. Rest in peace.

Summary: Behind the Hype
Review: The book "Journals" by Kurt Coabain captures the very essence of the way he lived and wrote his music. You can feel the depressing tone in his writing. Beyond his tiny scribble you can see the pain in everything he wrote. The problems and events in his life defined him. "Journals" really brings you inside Cobains soul.
Many people will argue that "Journals" should't be sold. Thats it too private to be seen, or that it's just another way that Courtney Love is trying to make money off of Kurt's death, but I don't feel that way. For any true fan of Kurt Cobain or Nirvana jouranls is a must read.

Summary: Controversial
Review: This book is amazing and it really brings Kurt Cobain to life. I disagree with the publishing of this book but most Nirvana fans have to read this. My solution was to avoid giving any money to Courtney Love and the other people who published this was to borrow it. Then you have the satifaction of reading it without contributing to the crass commercialism now surrounding Kurt's death.

Summary: talent with issues
Review: Kurt Cobain's journals are presented so well, encrypted in their simple black cover that hides the actual journal cover that is printed on the book itself. It feels sacred almost, like if you respect the man enough, and are interested enough to buy the book, you have the high honor to unwrap the black and see the emotion underneath. Yet if you respect him enough to not buy the book, then you miss out on such a meaningful violation of property that opens the eyes of Nirvana enthusiasts to the issues and dysfunctions wrapped up inside the twenty-something, drug-ridden, non-conformist of the 80's and early 90's that everyone can relate to on some abstract level.

Summary: Courtney cashing in
Review: Kurt would be appalled by this blatant attempt to cash in on his innermost thoughts by his vulture wife.

In tribute to Kurt's memory, don't waste your money on this garbage, which is clearly heavily censored. Instead, check out the book Who Killed Kurt Cobain, which, if nothing else, definitively proves that Kurt was in the process of divorcing Courtney at the time of his death because (surprise! surprise!) he believed she was an opportunist who was attempting to cash in on his fame and fortune.
