Rating: Summary: DECENT PRIMER, BUT.. Review: ..this is targeted at stark newbies into the world of Flash, or 'designers' getting their feet wet with animation, and for that purpose, this is a pretty good introduction. However, if you are familiar with coding in general and sport a somewhat DIY attitude then you may find this brimming with too much hand-holding for newbies. As someone really serious about his timelines, or as someone already quite comfortable with basic programming concepts, Moock's Definitive Actionscript (O'Reilly) is still the stuff to beat -- and that has some very useful observations for newbies as well.
Rating: Summary: Too simple Review: For somebody proficient in programming or computer science, this book is paced too slowly and spends too long covering fairly simple ideas. It's clear that this is just the right pace for some people, but if you are interested in things like actionscript programming, the book is probably not going to satisfy.

Rating: Summary: Great Intro to Flash MX! Review: I bought this book so I could work with my son and daughter (10 and 12) to teach them Flash MX (or, rather, teach them digital animation and video game programming). The book is a great introduction to Flash MX - easy to understand, good example/projects, alot of relevant 'hands-on-training' (as opposed to alot of programming books that have large sections of code). It's probably too much for my kids to independently read and stay motivated (since it's written for adults), but we've really enjoyed my working through the chapters and then teaching my kids each of the lessons. We're all creating our own Flash MX movies and are just starting a video game. The book has provided a very nice foundation for us to quickly get up to speed and start using Flash MX. It's also really nice to see my kids to take such a strong interest in starting to write video games instead of just playing them ;). (As with most introductory books, it's been great to get us started, but I don't really think we'll pick it up again now that we're pretty comfortable with the basics).
Rating: Summary: great for the beginner Review: I can't say it any other way, this book is absolutely the best book for the beginner. It covers every thing you need to know to be successfull with flash. A must have for those interested in learning flash.

Rating: Summary: MX FLASH, A FAIR BOOK Review: I liked the concept of the book for a beginner. The author shows an example and then goes through the steps necessary to duplicate the example. What I found disturbing about the book was; 1. some of the text and the illustrations don't match 2. I called the number in the book about a question and the individual didn't know the answer 3. my e-mails for help went unanswered. I perused about half of the book and got frustrated with it and the lack of support and set the book aside. I doubt if I would purchase another book by this author.
Rating: Summary: Awesomwe in every way Review: I played with flash for a couple years using tutorials and other books but never really got the hang of it. Once I went through the lessons on this book I finally got it. Now Im designing full sites and loving every minute of it.

Rating: Summary: I just LOVE this book!!! Review: I purchased Macromedia Dreamweaver MX | Hands-On Training and because that book was more than excellent I decided to buy the Hands-On Training one for Flash MX. This book is a MUST have to learn Flash. Step-by-step explanations, lots of helpful figures; this book really ROCKS! Huge compliment to Kymberlee Weil and Lynda Weinman. Another Hands-On Training milestone!
