Rating: Summary: When the truth hurts, painpills don't help Review: Rush Limbaugh is one of the few humans who loves himself far more than his mother ever could. The irony of his self-induced hearing loss is that Limbaugh, more than anyone, loves to listen to himself. Al Franken's book is an overdue breath of fresh air in a right-wing atmosphere of lies.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious Review: I loved this book--I don't know when I've laughed so hard. Maybe it helps that I'm a "liberal"--but what makes this a good book rather than just a book that says things I happen to agree with is that it's clever and well-executed. The humor runs from silly to witty, but it's pretty consistently funny. It's too bad the satire seems to be lost on some people. The point of the book is that Franken is using the same methods that Rush Limbaugh & co. use in a _satirical_ fashion in order to expose these methods as ridiculous. Take his "interview" with Rush Limbaugh, modeled after the latter's "interview" with Hillary Clinton. Yes, obviously it's quite easy to come up with the same sort of "interview" with Al Franken, but that doesn't do much to hurt his case. The point of the Rush Limbaugh interview isn't so much to make Rush admit that he is indeed a big fat idiot by taking his words out of context as to make fun of the idea of such an interview as a cheap shot with which you can make anyone say anything. So you can't really use Franken's methods against him to make him out to be a hypocrite, because the basis of the book is a humorous refutation of those very methods. That's why it's funny.
Rating: Summary: Don't miss the point Review: While I consider myself a liberal, let me first say that I do not respect the political rhetoric of most popular left-wing writers, Al Franken included. When I read this book--which I bought at a used book sale in my highly conservative hometown for a dollar--I immediately noticed something about it: the humor is excellent. I won't deny that some of Franken's points are lost and some are moot, especially when criticizing Rush Limbaugh who doesn't deserve to be respected anyway. Keep in mind when reading this book that it is for humor. If you want to read material from respectable liberals and conservatives, read something by Ian Haney Lopez or Nathan Glazer, but if you want a laugh, this is a worthy buy.

Rating: Summary: Al Franken's Great American Novel Review: This book is so imaginative that I am ashamed that I didn't write it.It made me laugh so hard that milk squirted out of my nose. Now that says a lot for a dead guy.
Rating: Summary: Relentless With Side-Splitting Abusive humor! Review: Al Franken jokes that he first thought of this book's title and then panicked when he realized he would actually have to listen to Rush Limbaugh. That's the kind of hilarious pathos that Franken passes on from his days at "Saturday Night Live". He never lets up with the Rush Limbaugh fat jokes and just when they an seem to be on the edge of 'just plain mean', he blasts out another semi-truth that's even funnier. Limbaugh is only one of many conservatives that get analyzed, chewed and spit out. No one escapes the humorous wrath of Al Franken, especially regarding hypocrisy in issues like war, marital fidelity and religion. Just take a look at the chapter selection to see who's lined up for public ridicule. Jeane Kirkpatrick's New York Times book review is at the beginning of the book with a riotous response from Franken that sends the highly respected reviewer into a frenzied, screaming, man-eating maniac! Also, the entire Index is a faux - relating every word to Rush Limbaugh and his extraneous girth. How Franken gets away with his highly amusing (and rightfully deserved) conservative Republican bashing is confounding. There is still hope for a dreadfully depressed and ungainly uptight America!
Rating: Summary: Franken tries Mike Moore's path to Celebrity, Mean Liberal Review: Big Fat Idiot. Did he remember that one from 3rd grade? Far left at it's worst. Franken is trying "mean far left" just to keep his name in the lime light. Unfortunatly it works. Says a lot about our time. Don't bother reading this, the hatered alone will make you sick.
Rating: Summary: The Truth Hurts Review: It's no wonder the wrong wing is so up in arms about this book. Unlike Rush and his compatriots, it seems that Al Franken actually checks his facts before he declares them to be so. If theres one thing the right wing ideologues cannot stand its irrefutable proof that they are full of mularkey. And they are big fat jerks to boot. Thanks Al. The truth does hurt. I laughed so hard i busted a rib.
Rating: Summary: Didn't have a zero star Review: A lot of hate in this book. Of course, for individuals that have written good reviews of this book probably hate Mr. Limbaugh too. What Mr. Franken lacks in intelligence, he makes up for with stupidity. What a shame it is to have so many people waste good energy on trying to bring someone else down to make them feel better. I'm glad I just borrowed the book.
Rating: Summary: The Big Fat Idiot who wrote this book! Review: Short and to the point, would this book get even a any attention if he didn't put Rush Limbaugh's name on the cover, I think not. It becomes abundantly clear once you skim through a few pages. I wouldn't be surprised if Franken blew what little money he's made so far on paying people to write favorable comments on this site!.
