Summary: Absolutely The Best Guitar Book
Review: Having recently purchased a Stratocaster with Marshall amp after years of not playing, I needed a refresher on my chosen instrument. What a wealth of information I found in this fabulously illustrated and organized book.

Once I picked this book up I couldn't put it down. It covers about everything you wanted to know that is related to guitar playing. The author gives you a concise bio of 20 different legendary guitar players, a complete background of guitar manufacturing and specs, guitar playing, maintenance and repair, soundstage and recording. You can jump around to whatever chapter interests you and read it in any order you desire. Every single page is filled with information and no paper is wasted in this book.

I challenge anyone to show me a guitar book that does a better job. I've looked at a lot of them and this one is in a class by itself.

Summary: Helpful Book, Predictable Musician Profiles
Review: I agree with most of the high praise for this book: the information in dense, precise, and understandable. But the choice of guitar players reflects the writer's (and era's?) over-infatuation with English rock gods, and their obvious roots and derivatives. Too bad. With a little more eclectic mix the readership that didn't want to become the next Jeff Beck/Eric Clapton/Steve Vai could have some inspiration.

Summary: Awesome
Review: I am a beginning guitar player and bought this book based on its excellent ratings here at Amazon.com. I feel like this is the best book I have ever purchased. Browsing through it, I can't imagine anything that I might want to know about the guitar not being in this book. It is absolutely amazing! If you have a guitar, you need this book!

Summary: The One Guitar Book You Must Buy!
Review: I bought this book seven years ago and still find it valid today. It is the most complete guitar book I have come across yet. Not only does it offer insight to guitar design and players who revolutionized it, it also has sections devoted to playing the guitar and maintainence. If you are a beginner I would really suggest this book. It teaches you how to start off and what to look for in a guitar. As you progress as a guitar player, you will find other "guitar primers" you can buy will eventually collect dust on your shelf because their scope is limited. However, with the Guitar Handbook, it covers a wide range of topics. When I got this book I had no idea what some of the stuff in it meant. Over time as I grew as a guitarist it finally started to come together. Sorry for such a long review but it's a really great book and I really recommend it!

Summary: Great reference
Review: I bought this book to get more information about Floyd Rose tremolo units before I had one installed into my Strat. It quickly became the most useful guitar reference in my library. it seems to have useful information about pretty much anything having to do with playing the guitar.

Summary: AWESOME BOOK
Review: I got this book to learn more about theory and scales and things like that. I got this book for the right reason-this book has everything a beginner would need to learn about scales, modes, chord theory and construction, harmonics, guitar anatomy and more. This book outlines the basics of everything a beginner should know. Even learn about sheet music. I recommend this book to any beginner or intermediate player--for acoustic OR electric.

Summary: This book rules.
Review: I got this book years ago when I started playing (when Peavey ruled the land!) and it quickly became my guitar bible. It covers everything and is very clear when it comes to theory, scales and chord charts. Great for beginners and excellent as a reference for those silly scales and chords that no normal person should know. My first ragged copy disappeared from my library sometime in the late 80's and I'm finally replacing it.

Summary: Highest Accolades
Review: I have used this book for ten years as my only tool to teach numerous students the guitar. Absolutely nothing comes close!

It is a "lifetime" resource that is so all-encompassing that it could possibly intimidate the beginner ... but that's the case with the breadth and depth of any skill worth acquiring.

Ralph Denyer is akin to a "Zen Master" in revealing the universe of the guitar!

Summary: A Guitar Book for All Seasons
Review: I must say, this book is absolutely excellent. As a fledgling guitarist, this was an invaluable resource to me. Even as a more advanced guitarist, I can still learn new things from it. The best thing about this book, that I can say, is that it covers such a broad range of topics. From history, to playing, to even wiring a guitar, this book's got it all. It's probably the best one I've ever seen (and I have seen a lot). Another good thing is that it's got so many illustrations. Perfect for getting a visual representation of different chord shapes, etc.

Summary: The Guitar Handbook
Review: I own a few, but this is the ONLY guitar book I ever USE. I highly recommend it for beginners. It has all the pertinent bits in it. One day, I'll work my way all the way through the techniques section, and then I'll be guitarzilla!
