Rating: Summary: Absolutely incredible! I cannot use enough superlatives! Review: This book is absolutely incredible. I have 2 copies, one for the road and one for home. Our lead player also carries his with him everywhere. I have owned my copy for 4 years, and I still refer to it at least weekly. I have been playing guitar for almost 30 years (since I was 6) and I still find new things to learn.
Rating: Summary: The Ultimate Resource for All Aspects of the Guitar Review: This book is by far the best book on the subject of guitars on the market. The "Playing the Guitar" section, is of particular interest to me and it pretty much covers a universe of music theory, invaluable to the guitar player. Techniques are also covered and basically I can't shut up about how great this book is! Just get it and you'll know what I'm talking about!
Rating: Summary: Practice all your life and you'll learn half of the book Review: This book is not JUST the best method book learning and master the guitar, it is althe ONLY book that I have ever seen that doesn't need to suggest additional readings. A perfect balance of theory, method, and history. I've been playing guitar for five years, and I've doubled my playing ability simply by reading some of this book
Rating: Summary: A must have for every guitarist Review: This book is simply the best guitar book I have ever seen. It has pages and pages of new and classic guitar pictures, and also information on amplifiers and the history of guitars and guitar equipment. There are also some basic lessons and diagrams included, but where this book really shines is in the detailed pictures, information and history of all types of guitars.
Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: This book is the most complete of it's kind. It has pictorial descriptions of theory as well as the fundamentals. This book was also used by Tom Morello the guitarist of the popular group Rage Against The Machine.
Rating: Summary: Guitars Explained. Review: This book successfully attempts to cover the broad spectra of guitars and guitar playing. Carefully divided and technically written, it provides detailed explainations of just about anything you may have to ask at the beginning to intermediate level of guitar proficiancy and explains the advanced.Coming in with some music theory background, I found the theory section a little broad but informative none the less. The book really shines towards the back where the authors begin to explain several mysteries (like the difference between a compressor and a limiter down to the level of showing you waveform graphs) that would stump even experienced players. It doesn't matter if you're just beginning guitar instruction or been playing for 10 years...this book is the one to have.
Rating: Summary: A must-have book for any level of guitar player. Review: This comprehensive book covers EVERYTHING you'd want to know--from famous guitarists to chord theory to amplifier electronics. A complete reference and fun reading as well. From beginner to accomplished, it has something for everyone. Check out all the descriptions of milestone guitarists and guitar models. The step-by-step tutorial on learning the basics--or simply refer to the book when trying to work out that hard-to-remeber chord fingering. Although this book takes an "encyclopaedia" approach to cataloging everything you'd want to know, the reading is never dry. With this book, you'll be able to discuss subjects such as your guitar's "action", the first solid-body electric, and alternate tunings like a real pro... NT
Rating: Summary: Probably the best you will find Review: This is probably the best overall book you will find about guitars. It covers quite a bit of material. The details about how a guitar works and how to maintain a guitar are the best I have ever personally read. For example, setting the scale length of a guitar, a very important part of getting a guitar to sound good, is covered in easy to understand terms. It helped me fix some minor tuning issues on my Stratocaster. This is also an effective book if you are interested in buying a guitar. You will be able to identify problems with most guitars because you will know what to look for. For example, checking for a warped neck. There is a great two page section that gives you the basics about how to look for that kind of defect. And don't let any of these other reviews convince you that there is not enough theory in here. Granted, if you are brand new to playing or music in general it probably won't make much sense and you will struggle. But if you understand some basic scale and chord structures this book will help you gain a better understanding of how it all works. Odds are that those who do not like the theory in this book either do not like the approach or didn't actually read the entire book. This book will NOT make you sound like your favorite guitarist. All the great players are great because they practice and the greatest players just have the gift. So do not expect that out of any book or instructor. Lastly, do not buy the hard cover edition. Get the soft cover/paperback edition. You will want to have this book in front of you when you are working on your guitar or playing it. The only thing that would make this book a 5 star is if you could get it in spiral bound format.
Rating: Summary: Everything you ever wanted to know about guitar... Review: This is the best all-around guitar book I've ever seen! You would have to buy many, many books to get the same information contained in this manual. I got so sick of borrowing it from the library over and over again that I had to buy it myself. Do yourself a favor and BUY this book
Rating: Summary: not the "Guitar Handbook..." Review: this is the GUITAR BIBLE! This is the best possible reference in book form that you could get for the guitar! I really loved reading the bios of some of the guitar legends...it got me into Charlie Christian and Django Reinhardt. It does present basic THEORY, but the goal of this book isn't to give you a theory course, it's to provide you with as much information about the guitar as possible. It certainly achieves that! Buy this book and you won't be sorry.
