Summary: Any fan of satire/parody needs this book
Review: The only thing funnier than reading this book is the laugh you'll get when someone asks you if the Onion is 'real'.

Some of the humor just isn't going to sit will with the uptight among us. The editors of the Onion do push the envelope now and again but I love it. I wish the whole world were this irreverent. I think we wouldn't have quite as much conflict and such.

It is the perfect coffee table book. I drive my girlfriend crazy when I read and re-read articles from 'Our Dumb Century', still laughing my head off at the same jokes.

'FDR: Why Does Our Joyless President Never Dance?'

'Allen Funt Pulls Hilarious Cuban Missle Crisis Prank on JFK'

'President Ford's Pet Rock Dies; Breszhnev: I am saddened at the passing of your companion stone'

If you laughed at any of these and are a 20th Century history buff, I'm begging you to buy this book.

Summary: This book is amazing.
Review: This book is a classic and hilarious.

My favorite parts were the early 1900's and up to about WWII. With the benefit of knowing how it all ends, the Onion is able create headlines about Hitler and the British and French which are totally false but are probably what the thinking was at the time.

I love the part where Charlie McCarthy and his puppet urged American kids to committ suicide and 75,000 did so.

The Onion rips the racist mentality of the early 1900's by overtly promoting the racist attitudes of the country. Of course back then you weren't considered a racist if you held some of those beliefs, but times have changed. The Onion has a hold on what public consensus was during the past and uses that knowledge to create hilarious stories.

I recommend this book for anyone with a knowledge of history or for anyone wanting to learn.

Summary: One of the funniest things I've seen in many, many years
Review: Holy cow. I've always loved history and comedy, and this book is a near-perfect blending of the two. With characteristic Onion-style irreverence, "Editor Zweibel" looks at the twentieth century in a way guaranteed to make even a dead person laugh. I truly enjoyed the way the different "years" actually reflected the writing styles and attitudes of those times. If you are familiar with the history of the twentieth century, and you have even the faintest glimmering of a sense of humor, get this book!

Summary: This is funny ...!
Review: This book cracks me up! I have Our Dumb Century and Dispatches from the Tenth Circle, and both are wet-your-pants funny. First of all, none of it is true, but yet it is. The Onion is a publication that makes fun of every race, class, culture, and creed. It makes fun of humanity. It is offensive, it is tasteless, it is nasty, it is sadistic and crazy. So if things of this nature truly offend you, then you might as well go back to your God-fearing home and sit and watch Pat Buchanan on the 700 Club. Yes, you heard me. You see, the Onion makes fun of God, Jesus, Mohammed, and any other religious figure. It makes fun of Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Al Gore, Ross Perot, and every other politician. It makes fun of the soccer Mom, the Corporate executive, and the Truck Driver. And it makes fun of gays, lesbians, heterosexuals, bisexuals, and every other "sexual" that you could come up with. It makes fun of Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, the NFL, MLB, PGA, and NBA. It makes fun of EVERYONE, it is truly the only entity that non-discriminates by discriminating. It is great. Buy it. Read it. Laugh you're arse off.

Summary: Start every day with a bit of wit courtesy of the Onion
Review: I have just opened this as a Christmas present and this is one of those pleasant surprises you get to find under the tree from time to time. The Onion has moved from Madison, Wisconsin to a big eastern city and has only been around since 1988, but that certainly does not stop them from retroactively skewering everyone and everything before their time (beginning with President McKinley greeting the 20th century as "The Era of Coal"). You might not have heard the Onion, the Mid-West's answer to the Harvard Lampoon (only funnier), until they got a lot of national press for their brilliant and cathartic coverage of the tragedy of September 11th. But if you did get to see what they came up you can appreciate whether this time of humor is up your alley. Who says the age of irony is dead? Not moi, mon ami. And remember: It is never too late to pick up this calendar, because when you are making fun of the 20th Century it is not like the humor has some sort of expiration time...

Summary: Lighten up with this!
Review: This is a great book, in the tradition of the Onion it pokes fun at all topics, serious and non. Everyone should sit down and read this, laughing at the headlines, realizing that every once in a while it's important to just laugh without worrying about whether or not it's politically correct.

Summary: Funnier than 14 mofos
Review: This one's a real corker. You'll laugh 'til your guts bleed. Anybody who's into history owes it to themselves to check this out. Amazingly accurate in its bitterness. There is no balm in Gilead, so get this book instead.

"Huey Long Assasinated, Dies 'Real Spicy-Like'"

"RKO Wants Out Of Three-Picture Welles Contract After Disastrous Citizen Kane Premier. Audience Befuddled By Confusing, Non-linear Narrative"

Summary: Should be used to supplement school history texts
Review:

This book serves as the coffin lid to the 20th Century with stabbing comentary and satire on human pretentions, war, ignorance, near-sightedness, and general stupdity. The Onion's characteristicly dry wit gives the reader a fresh outside perspective on the highlights of history's most eventful 100 years.

Summary: genius
Review: This book is an instant classic. Every time you pick it up, you find something new and hilarious. Anyone who does not find this book funny should probably not be allowed to procreate, but definitely should not be allowed to raise children.
