Summary: GENIUS, PURE GENIUS
Review: Well. Quite simply, this is the most scathingly brilliant piece of satire since Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal". Dead-on period accuracy, headlines that will have you rolling on the floor and crying. Every possible pretension and absurdity of the last 100 years is mercilessly skewered. I particularly like the early-twentieth century material: From 1910: "United States Leads World in Industry. 'Thanks Orphans!' Grateful Americans Say". Long Live the Onion!!! This is the funniest book I've ever read. P.S. If you like this, check out "National Lampoon's 1964 High School Yearbook Parody" (The second funniest book ever!)

Summary: A Very Funny Book
Review: This book is hilarious. The only downside to this book is that some people may find a good portion of the book offensive, as it makes light of some rather heavy events. However, it is all in the spirit of fun. If you offend easily, don't buy this book. Everyone else, however, has an obligation to BUY THIS BOOK!

Summary: Superb for news junkies
Review: You already know this book is funny, although you really have to check it out to see just how funny it is. My favorite parts of the book are the subtleties: the true-to-the-era type faces, the funky, fake ads that look oh-so real, the smaller stories that are written with just as much detail and matter-of-fact tongue in cheek as the headliners. It's a perfect gift for the people in your life that are news-focused. Especially good if you know someone who works in the media!!

Summary: Funnier to those who've "lived" this...
Review: Enter my Grandmother. Born in November of 1912. She was visiting one evening, and spotted this book on the coffeetable. I was in the kitchen at the time when all of the sudden I started hearing gasps of horror, followed by uncontrollable giggling. Upon reentering the living room, I found her with 'Our Dumb Century' in her hands and tears rolling down her face. Every page she would turn would cause the same reaction; initial gasp of guilty horror, followed by the giggling. I swear, it was as funny watching her read this as it was to read it in person.

Summary: The Book Your Coffee Table Has Been Aching For...
Review: I read The Onion every week, so imagine my surprise when over 90% of what was in the book was not on the website. I bought a copy for my parents, my friends, it's fantastic. No matter what decade you call home, if it happened between 1900 and 2000 you will enjoy this book.

Summary: Excellent, Creative, Side-Splitting
Review: What can you say about The Onion? It's great stuff, hilarious satire of poltical and social situations. The only things that might concievably turn you off to this book would be if you're easily offended, or have little in the way of historical knowledge, which is necessary for most of the articles to put them in context.

Summary: Hillarious Parody of the 20th Century
Review: Revered as the greatest century in the history of man kind, we forget that it was home to some of the greatest mistakes and evils the human race has ever commited. A very sarcastic and realistic satire of events that have transpired before The Onion actually first started being written is gut-bustingly hysterical. Those history buffs will especially enjoy the early 1900s articles and advertisements. There isn't enough room here to name some of the sections that will easily leave you in pain from hours of laughing.

Summary: A great way to start the day
Review: I think that this is one of the best ways to start the day. When I get to work, I peel back yesterdays news and laugh at the absurdity of today's. A great pick me up.

Summary: Funniest book I have ever read
Review: "Our Dumb Century" is hands down, without a doubt, the funniest book I have ever read. Nobody and nothing is safe from these ribald, brilliantly satirical "articles". This ism't a book of cheap shots though...well it is, but they are really intelligent cheap shots and the thoroughness with which the 20th century is reviewed is worthy of a history book. Words can't do this book justice, suffice it to say, if you want something that will make you laugh so hard tears are running down your face, this is it.

Summary: Extraordarily funny political commentary... and then some.
Review: Sick and tired of History 101? Can't stand your Political Science professor? Sad? Read this book - it will make you laugh to tears as you flip through its pages. In order to understand most of the jokes, you only need about average political/historical knowledge, so do not hesitate to pick up this book from you friendly bookstore! It is a great book to read all at once and/or, if you prefer, one page at a time. A great thing to read during the awkward silences during parties! If you like theonion.com, you will thoroughly enjoy this compelation of headlines - after all, The Onion IS America's Finest News Source.

PS. Not advisable for readers without a sense of humor, really.
