Summary: One of the best books on stand-up comedy
Review: I've recently been doing stand-up comedy but I never really understood the format for telling jokes. The Comedy Bible helped me to do so! From the moment I read it, I began to do so much better with organizing my routine. This is a wonderful How-To guide, and I suggest that all aspiring comedians read it.

Summary: Deep Insight Into Professional Comedy
Review: I've seen Judy Carter "Live" watching her capture and captivate audiences with a diverse range of Comedy bits from sublime to hacky - and make it all work. Ive seen her do bits that other comics would run from and pull it off flawlessly.

But this book isn't all about Judy Carter, its about Comedy. Performing, writing, working and breathing comedy. The book is filled with golden tips and insights from dozens of Great Comedians like George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Robin Williams and more.

Inside you will find detailed analysis of Stand Up Comedy performance, with a line by line breakdown, a complete comedy writers reference and even a complete job hunting reference.

This book is a modern treatise on Comedy for performers and writers alike.

Summary: One of the best!!
Review: If you are one of those people who talks about doing stand-up but hasn't gotten up the nerve this book is the one for you. Judy is very specific and the exercises you can do with a partner will allow you to believe you too can get up there. The book is a wealth of info for more experienced comics and comedy writers as well. She covers a lot of bases.
Unfortunately, I am one of those people who reads more than I perform, but hey I've read a few good books. The best I've found are The Comedy Bible and The Comic Toolbox by John Vorhaus. Hope this helps.

Summary: An INCREDIBLE Book!
Review: If you have a tendency to make people laugh, occasionally on purpose, you NEED this book. After years of "Hey, you're kinda funny!" and "Why don't you do an open mic or something?" I decided to 'research' my options. Judy Carter's book is a one-stop source for just such a task. Combining excellent advice from her experience as a comedy coach and peppered liberally with examples, quips, and ruminitions (I'm a big-word fan) from a veritable (see?) who's who in the comedy world, this book is informative from front to back. Her structured, schedule-based approach keeps the neophyte comic on track, whether the desired end goal is actually doing a stand-up routine, writing a spec. sitcom script, or writing more 'literary' humor pieces. The last section - covering the business aspects of comedy - also contains indispensible advice for the comic ready to chuck it all, quit his or her day job, and take to the open road. Buy it, read it, and live it.

Summary: Launch Pad
Review: It's a very pragmatic approuch and takes you through writing an act, getting on stage, getting an agent, etc. step by step.
If you have no idea what you're doing, this is a good base to start with.
