Review: Probably a great resource if you're interested in being a standup comic. Other than that, there's not really that much in this book I found useful or interesting... a lot of name-dropping, though! Apparently every comedian throughout the history of standup has taken one of Judy Carter's classes!

Summary: All Purpose Humor Book
Review: This book truly is the comedy bible. I've read many books about comedy, humor and writing, this one takes the cake. Easy to use ideas; clear examples; fun anecdotes and a "you can do it" pep talk all packed into a fun filled, concise manual. If you have to use comedy in ANY aspect of your life (corporate speeches, writing, even your nephew's barmitzvah toast), this is the book for you. Judy is one of the best teachers ever, and that's hard to translate into a book. Give it a try. So if you've ever been left on the short end of the comic reply stick, buy it now before someone else does!

Review: This is a great book on the business of stand up comedy. If you are looking for a how to write jokes book, I would recommend Greg Dean's Step by Step to Stand Up Comedy. However, this book does have some very useful information about the business side of comedy, as well as some good excercises that will get your creative juices flowing.

Review: This is simply the best book on standup comedy I have read. I wish I could take her class! This book helped me to improve a five minute routine I have and perform it in front of a crowd. I also appreciate that Judy Carter does not have the sexism that mars other books on the topic such as Comic Toolbox by John Vorhaus. If you had to buy only one book on standup, this should be it. Greg Dean's book is pretty good too, but it's just not as comprehensive. Thank you, Judy, for being a great teacher through this book.
