Summary: "Secondhonad Smoke Linked to Secondhand Coolness"
Review: An abosolute "must own" for any fan of social and political satire!

Another great book from the publishers of America's funniest news source. Following on the heals of the acclaimed "Our Dumb Century," this new Onion book is a riotously funny compilation of the best stories from their regular publication. As an Onion fan, I always catch myself remembering classic articles and how much they made my sides split, but when I try to find them I always seem to be out of luck. This book contains the very best of The Onion and serves as an archive for all those great articles. For those not familiar with The Onion, this is an absolute must. It will convert you to a biting cynic and make you proud to be one. This humor really is THAT infectious.

Put one on your coffee table and watch your guests reel in laughter. I constantly find myself asking, "What's he laughing about so uncontrolably?" only to enter my living room and see a guest of mine in tears over this book.

Its also a great companion for "Our Dumb Century," so buy them both.

Summary: Great, but not perfect
Review: As I was reading the weekly issue of The Onion on their website a month ago, I saw this new book advertised. I've bought their first two books, so I picked it up on ... a little after it came out, and finished reading it yesterday. Unfortunately, we have another case of sequelitis here...

Don't get me wrong, this is a great book, but it's not as quite good as the original. However, it still contains tons of laugh-out-loud, tell-all-your-friends humor that will keep you occupied for hours. For those of you who aren't familiar with the Onion, imagine if South Park and SNL teamed up to write a newspaper with such articles as "Fox Defends Airing of 'When Jews Attack'" and "Fun Toy Banned Because of Three Stupid Dead Kids." These make for hilarious reading, but not if you're offended by (lots of) swearing.

So if you enjoy The Onion, yes, definitely buy this book, it's well worth it; but if you're new to the publication, let me direct you to "The Onion's Finest News Reporting" before you get this one.

Summary: Funniest book you'll ever read
Review: Expect to be offended. This book, based on fake news stories from The Onion (a real newspaper and website), is a refreshing change in today's politically correct era. Everything under the sun is mocked and ridiculed in one way or another -- politics, religion, hobbies, sports, race relations, et. al. But you'll get more laughs out of it than red faces. A fair amount of trivia, politics, history, and pop culture knowledge is needed to fully appreciate some of the subtle references that support and enhance the stories.

Summary: Great For A Few Days of Bellylaughing
Review: For those who haven't caught on yet to "The Onion", it is a "newspaper" that writes some of the funniest and most ribald dark humor around in a LONG time. Imagine if Dilbert were crossed with South Park and began writing satire articles in newspaper format based on current events and culture in politically correct America, then you would have something resembling "The Onion". This not for the faint of heart or puritanical. There are oodles of foul language and some items that are VERY easy to label "insensitive". It will infuriate pundits on both the Left and Right while causing many others to guffaw out loud in amazement and amusement at the brutal "truth" they just read! This book is the second compendium of the best of their regular material. It will keep you and your friends laughing for days while watching out for "those who wouldn't quite approve". Copies of several pages will likely find their way into discrete hideouts at work for select newcomers to enjoy.

As with most good "best of ..." books, you will eventually grow weary of them and put them up on your shelf to collect dust. This should give your ribs time to recover and wait for the next "dispatch" on their website! Still, give it a try if you are not too squeamish and want to figure out what so many others are laughing about.

Summary: DANGEROUSLY FUNNY!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!
Review: I laugh so hard at this and other Onion related stuff, that I seriously worry sometimes about bursting a blood vessel or something.

I won't go into details on this stuff. If you're unfamiliar with the Onion, go to [their website] for a brief taste of what it's like.

This humor is not for the sensitive. They push "political incorrectness" to the nth degree and then some. Sometimes my jaw just drops open at the incredibly poor taste in some of the articles, but it's usually while tears of laughter are running down my face too. KEEP THIS BOOK AWAY FROM THE KIDS!!! It is certainly adult material, and I think you have to be an adult who is up on the news to really appreciate the depth to which these writers are cutting. I'll buy anything from The Onion!!

Summary: Best One Yet!
Review: I loved this book! I think it's the best one yet. I hated OUR DUMB CENTURY...I find the modern news stories are much more entertaining and clever. For example, the headline: Special Olympics Tee Ball Stand Pitches Perfect Game. Very witty. If anyone out there enjoyed the book THE DISTURBED WRITINGS OF ADAM COCHRAN, you're definitely going to love this one!

Summary: It's Painful How Funny This Book Is
Review: I read this book just days after the World Trade Center attack, and it forced me to lift my spirits--even when I didn't want them lifted. What a delight it is, and just as clever as the earlier Onion books, too. I hope in this climate of terror and recession that people will find the humor in this wonderful volume (it's not hard to locate).

Summary: If you like the website, this book is for you...
Review: If you like the website's non-pc, sarcastic style of humor, then you'll enjoy this book. On the website you have to wait till next week if the current stories aren't your particular cup of tea. With the book, you just turn the page. That's the real beauty of it.

Two considerations that demoted this book to four stars:
- All of the stories are in black and white, not color as the cover seems to suggest.

- The stories on a particular page in the book are not grouped around a related subject, as you would find on the website. My own preference is to enjoy three or four "howls of laughter" type stories in a row.

That said I'll end with a positive comment. One of the nice things about reading humorous stories, instead of comics, is that it takes longer. A Dilbert book can be consumed in one sitting, but this one will provide many opportunities for laughter the first time through.
