Rating: Summary: Probably the funniest book I've ever read Review: Mike's book is really hilarious. I was sad to see MST3K cancelled, but this book definitely helps heal the pain. I laughed out loud at each of the articles (not just once, more around 10 times). The whole thing is great. From the dedication to the great last article about MST3K: The Movie, it's all full of laughs. This is a great book, and it deserves more stars, but I can't give it any more. This is going to sound a lot like "Reading Rainbow", but if you're in the mood for a hilarious book, pick up "Mike Nelson's Movie Megacheese".
Rating: Summary: Mike Nelson still rocks! Review: This book was oustanding. Very funny and humorous all around. I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: Can't watch MST3K on work breaks? Read this book! Review: I'm a big fan of Mystery Science Theater and I think Michael J. Nelson (say it like the judge did in the episode where he was on trial) is a funny guy. His sense of parody and comedic angle on the real world and movies is right-on. Darn it, I just couldn't wait for the movie version! Hey Mike, how about a book-on-tape version soon though . . . please! Buy it pink boy!
Rating: Summary: Rising Above the Slagheap of Gutless Cine-Review Conformity Review: We all know the silicon valley level of eye-popping wealth out there to be made off of rental recommendation. Denying this and the juggernaut of peer pressure to continue the review-industy farce which staunchly maintains that films like, oh, say, the *entire* Police Academy franchise were in any way funny, Mike Nelson steps up. Nay, he refuses to give the standard hitchhiker to an endless sea of "encino man"s, and instead guides the frail faithful to Clear with a list of the real meat-- true cinema cheese. now, i haven't really read the book, but i've always said mike was much better eye candy than joel. once i've given enough plasma to afford the hardback, you bet it's the first thing my donation-woozy body will be heading to the bookstore to buy.
Rating: Summary: A must for a MSTie! Review: This book is great. Any fan of the television phenomenon will love it. Mike Nelson's sense of humor will keep you turning the pages.
Rating: Summary: Like MST3K in print! Review: If you love MST3K, you'll love this book. The difference is that Mike gets to lampoon big-budget stinkers like Independence Day, Volcano, and The Shadow instead of low-grade films. The humor is light and engaging as Mike punctures the pompous front of Hollywood.
Rating: Summary: I was laughing so hard that milk squirted out of my nose... Review: Oh, man. Very funny indeed! I've missed MST3k since it's been canceled. Nothing can truly replace it, but this book is at least keeping me laughing. Mike Nelson is like a tiny god to me.
Rating: Summary: Blunderfull Review: If you like (bad)Movies, Comedy, Sly Wit, and Top Notch Writing; or you hate (bad)Movies, Poorly Written and Conceived Scripts, and a certain Belgian Action Star, get this book. I gotta say, I was very dissapointed when MST3K quit shooting. But if this is the result of Mike having more time on his hands; "KEEP THE BOOKS COMING"! I got to page 35 before my perpetual mouthfull of Caffine Free Diet Coke erupted through my nose. The "Whistler had him try out a blunderbuss" line was more than I could take. Only my childhood Buddy of over 30 years ago ever accomplished that feat. Job well done Mike.
Rating: Summary: How the funny have fallen... Review: Nelson's work on MST3K was always hilarious and was a welcome injection of dark sarcasm into plodding channels like Comedy Central and SFC... however, in print he just... fizzles out. This book suffers from the same disease as the Post-MST "humor" site, TimmyBigHands. That shockingly painful disease is called NOT BEING FUNNY. It tries, rather like an old drunken rodeo clown claiming to still be on top of his game. But it just doesn't work. To return to the book: endless samey reviews that recycle the same 2 jokes and take on such hardhitting topics as Pamela Anderson and the Baldwins, this collection of essays starts off "ok" and then quickly dissolves into a gooey mess of BLAH. Mike, did you really need to use the same DVD jokes? Did you really need the endless marijuana references? WE GET IT. You used to smoke pot. How great for you. We're all VERY impressed, let me tell you. Shallow, boring, and painfully bland, I can only hope Mike Nelson sticks to TV and ceases his attempts at "criticism". Do it for the children, Mike. Oh, and who the heckfire designed that AWFUL cover? Don Knotts with a pirated copy of Photoshop could make something 247247 times better in about 3 minutes. SHAME, Mr. Nelson. SHAME!
Rating: Summary: 1001 laughs ! Review: Great book. I couldn't stop laughing! Highly Recommended !
