Rating: Summary: Drew Carey rocks!!!! Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read. Drew is a very genius comic writer. If you like his stand-up or his show (The Drew Carey Show) you nead this book! One of the geat things about it is that he wrote the intire book on his own with out a "ghost writer", so it's all Drew, all the time. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: A Definite Guilty Pleasure Review: "Guilty Pleasures" are the things human beings do in the private moments when they think themselves in a witness-free universe. The Foreign Film Lover who watches Pauly Shore driven dreck, the Vegetarian guiltily gobbling their McDonalds cheeseburger; Guilty Pleasures are the things that make life worth living.Well, Dirty Jokes and Beer is my Guilty Pleasure. As someone whose tastes run to classic lit, who can debate endlessly the minutiae of Return of the Native et. al, well let's just say I would be no less than a disappointment to my intellectual friends. But that is the entire point of the book. To be who you are, not worry about what others think. Which is probably why a guy like Drew doesn't give an Armadillos behind about reviews such as this, from fans or critics! While others have slammed Carey's short stories, I found them to be the most refreshing part of the book. They follow classic short story structure, and the characterizations sprinkled liberally throughout only give them added "punch". Sure, Drew is no wordsmith on par with Fitzgerald or Capote, but he isn't meant to be. He's here to entertain, take it or leave it. As for the beginning of the book, I found it considerably weaker, but not less entertaining. It's definitely a fun read, filled with humor and frivolity. Carey makes no apologies, nor does he need to. He did a damn fine job!
Rating: Summary: The best comedy I have read Review: Drew Carey tells of his luck, but doesn't give examples. Instead, he gives stories based on his experiences. And the jokes at the front of the chapters are the funniest I have seen in years. After those ones, there is a whole chapter full of jokes. Drew also answers some of the most common questions, like, "What's Mimi like offstage?"
Rating: Summary: Having a Drink with Drew Review: Drew Carey is very direct and writes with a no-nonsense approach. He divulges behind the scenes info from his TV show, and shares some personal thoughts and history that might have been better left unwritten--but I'll give him credit for having guts. The jokes were not as funny as I was expecting, but Carey, like any drinking buddy, is not as funny as he thinks he is.
Rating: Summary: 2 1/2 stars, for half of the book... Review: Ok the reason I gave this book a rate of 2 1/2 is because a little bitmore than half of Drew Carey's book was so heartfelt and so funny.Hestated his thoughts on life, his family stories, his big screen t.v. and that made a great first half.He had some of the funniest jokes i have ever heard, his 101 jokes,I will not say the name of them because there may be some children looking at this review.I can say, being that I am a male and live by Ohio I can relate to some of his experiences. But,when we get into his short stories I nearly gave up on him.I was hoping for the book to end so I could start to read a quality book. When the last page came upon,I was glad and hardly read it. If you are sure you need to read this book, check it out from the local library or borrow it from a friend.Do not waste your money. Yes I am a teen male,I enjoy reading "dirty jokes" and things but what Carey is writing about is rape and bull. Good Day...
Rating: Summary: Gimme A Beer Review: Drew Carey's off the wall literature is worth every minute that you read it. The combination of jokes that are borderline good taste (that's one of the things that make this book great) and Drew's special brand of humor and delivery make this book a treat. For anyone looking to read a relaxing, easy read, pick this one up for your collection.
Rating: Summary: Extremely Hilarious Review: This book is extremely funny. Drew definitely has a way of putting things. I would not recommend this book though for people who are easily offended by harsh language. If this doesn't bother you, then by all means pick up a copy and prepare to laugh 'til your sides ache.
Rating: Summary: Drew's book Review: The beginning I personally didnt care for, it was Drew whinning about everything that bugs him, but I did read the whole thing, the next sections I really enjoyed, he was very frank about himself and his life and the show. I really enjoyed some of the "inside" information, Drew came across as being an everyday shmo just like you or me, heck he could be one of our neighbors.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I used to like Drew Carey. I really did. But after beginning this book, my opinion of him began to fade. I was ashamed to have people know I was reading it, the language was that filthy. It was funny in places, I'll give him that. I just wish he, and most other comedians and humorists realized that it takes more talent to be clean and be funny. Anyone can tell a dirty joke. I don't recommend having this book anywhere near children, unless you want to answer alot of uncomfortable questions and have there perception of you drastically alterred. Sorry, Drew.
Rating: Summary: Could not put it down! Review: My husband bought me this book as a Christmas gift. He grew up in the same town in Ohio as Drew. The story about Jim Brown is a classic. I laughed till I cryed. He just has a way of connecting with everday people. Any fan of the show is sure to love it!
