Rating: Summary: Funny and true to life. Review: The second chapter "A Snowball's Chance" is worth the [money] for the book itself. The rest ... well.. it's good but the second chapter was just soooooo descriptive, funny and true to life that I think it's just paling in comparison, KWIM?
Rating: Summary: Funny Book, but Doesn't Compare to Radio Work Review: This book is very, very funny, and a quick read. I read the last 100 pages in one sitting, laughing out loud several times. Unfortunately, I also have to admit to some major disappointment. Granted, as a 33-year old straight male I am not exactly in the target demographic for this book. I was a BIG fan of Ms. Macsai's radio essays and reportage which ran every few months on NPR throughout the early 1990's. When I heard this book was coming out I absolutely couldn't wait, and bought it the moment I saw it. Thus, it was a letdown to read the first few chapters and realize "Lipshtick" was going to be essentially a light, fluffy, girlfriend-to-girlfriend chat. The book is autobiographical without providing very much detail, so we never really get to know Ms. Macsai or her family outside the bundle of neuroses on parade here. Macsai also has a slightly annoying habit of telling anectdotes about friends or ex-boyfriends who are supposedly now famous, but then refusing to name names, except for folksinger Lucy Kaplansky. One also has to wonder if Macsai has thought about how her children might react when they are old enough to read this book - the last few chapters are a side-splittingly funny but unremittingly bleak portrait of pregnancy, childbirth and child-rearing. Most disappointing is the virtually complete lack of writing about her radio work and her time at NPR. I can only hope Macsai's next book offers a more substantial portrait of her life and/or work. Unfortunately, Macsai makes it sound like she won't have time for another book until the kids are off to college in about 2017.
Rating: Summary: GirlPower at its Best. Review: This is a funny, amusing, honest and well written book, that is perfect for any girl that knows the wonders of being female and having "girlfriends." It's a real treat and is the perfect gift for any friend. I received it as a gift and plan to pass it on. It's insightful and honest. A really good choice.

Rating: Summary: For girlfriends and sisters.. Review: This is an extraordinary book - when you read it, you will understand when I say that I have a crush on Gwen! This is the type of book where every chapter evokes a feeling of recognition - that she not only 'gets it' - but can express exactly how so many women in this generation feel about our lives, loves and families. For example, when she speaks of looking for perfection in relationships, of always wondering if "Mr. Even-Better" is out there, of endlessly adding, re-adding, and then discussing the pros and cons of men....this could be me. I found myself reading very slowly, to make this book last.
Rating: Summary: a pile of cliches between two covers Review: this is quite possibly one of the worst books i've ever read - i couldn't even finish it. hardly funny, it's a conglomeration of stupid cliches that began in Bridget Jones' Diary and will, at least with me, end here - I can't read any more books by women talking about "girlfriends, men, and why i'm not married yet". what a complete and utter disappointment. so glad i didn't buy this book myself!

Rating: Summary: Don't Send out a Search Party...I've gone to the Restroom! Review: Want a good laugh , then get this book.! Kinda of a female version of Tim Allen's "Don't Stand Too Close To A Naked Man" An interesting little gem of insight to share with our male partners on how the "girl thing" works! Was also a book I wanted to share with other girlfriends, sisters and moms. Yes, the fountain of all wisdoms is shared in the bathroom. Nothing better then sharing a good story with a friend in the next stall or giving advice to a stranger at the sink...we've all been there..guys just don't know what they are missing. thanks for the fun reminders of our girlness! Long live Harrison Ford and the carpenters of this world.
