Summary: Two Thumbs Down
Review: I've never written a book review prior to this one. After getting half way through this book I felt I needed voice my opinion on one. However, I am concerned that maybe I expected too much after reading some of the positive reviews?

This book contains too many errors to be considered a valuable resource. Many examples do not pertain to LM2, many of the downloadable files are not compatible with LM2, text refers to examples that are non existent, references are made to non-existent features, and the list continues. Having purchased over 30 software books over the past few years I can say with confidence this is the worst computer software related book I've ever purchased.

Summary: LiveMotion 2: A Beginner's Guide
Review: Knowing Live Motion 1 very well, I bought this book specifically to learn more about Live Motion 2's new scripting capabilities. I therefore only read the last 5 chapters (11 thru 15) on scripting.

My most relevent comment regards typos. That is misspellings of both text and javascript code. So much so that I couldn't beleive it. This publisher ought to be ashamed of themselves. Is there not such a thing as an editor or proof reader anymore?

I found these typos on practically every page (chapters 11 thru 15) and especially in the example code, a most frustrating way to learn (the code printed on page was incorrect and therefore the example files did not work).

Although there were some well thought out ideas conveyed, because of so many mistakes, I would not recommend this book for beginners.

Summary: Confusing - full of mistakes
Review: Mistakes in this book can greatly confuse beginners. For instance page 134 states that filters are no longer available in LiveMotion 2. Page 137 then has a step by step instruction that includes an instruction to select the filter command from the object menu! There are many instances where the text talks about issues covered in the last chapter that were simply not there! The other annoyance is when they refer to files you can download that are also not available. This is a major problem as the instuctions assume you HAVE the files. It seems they took the version 1 book and updated it without checking all the references. I am only on page 140 but have already found more mistakes in this book than ANY other I have used.

Summary: Awful Book
Review: Save your money and your sanity. This is a terrible book, full of mistakes and misinformation. Until a better book appears, read the Adobe documentation and follow some of the Adobe on-line examples. You will actually learn something. The writer and editor (if there was one) of this monstrosity should be banned from ever publishing anything again.

Summary: pretty good to start with the basics
Review: The book begins with very good explanations on the basic functions of livemotion 2 and when you create your first animation; you'll feel at ease as far as the pace that the book sets for you to follow. I ran into huge snags with the action scripting. A beginners book should just stick to LiveMotions built in scripts and elaborate on how to edit them. I think it would be a better approach for understanding scripting and how delicate it is. This is where I feel the book loses me. But for the price and the title of the book. I feel like I got my moneys worth. After a week with the book I got two pages redone on my site (the intro page and the enter page) it actually took about 3 days and the other four days were just tweaks as I corrected some of the scripts. I'm still working on the other pages/links to the website. I would appreciate a revision on the chapters with the scripting via free download. This would have been a five star book if the scripting was clearly explained and free from typos. Unfortunatley there aren't many books to chose from when it comes to learning livemotion 2. For the few that are available; this is definitley the first choice hands down.

Summary: .::: LiveMotionCentral :::. Simply Wonderful!!!
Review: This book is targeted to those that are new to LiveMotion, or have not used the application that much. Each page provides information down to the palette, and tool, getting you ready to be as productive as possible.

Simon has done a great job to help keep the beginning users on their toes, and to consistently question them on materials covered, to make sure what you're learning sticks. 1 Minute Drills are great examples on how this book helps you remember the more important information covered in a given section. Ask the Expert is a great way to learn about topics that are related to what you have just covered.

Simon's book is for the Beginner. Intermediate Users will learn something in sections two and three. Advanced users need not apply. You may find some information you have missed, but this would be quick reading for the advanced user.

Summary: Great Book For a Beginner
Review: This book is very well organized and easy to understand. If you have never used live motion, or any program like it, this is th book for you. It uses a combination of simple explanations, pictures, excerises, multiple choice questions and check lists. If you already know how to use live motion and are looking to improve your skills this might not be the book for you. It's exactly what it claims to be "A Beginners Guide"

Summary: A great initiation...
Review: This is a great book for people new to Livemotion 2 & Flash animation. It is written in a clear an concise fashion and is very easy to understand and follow. I am a complete beginner and I am already creating LM compositons. The book includes a number of resources on the web you can check out as well that will give you inspiration and illustrate some of the things that can be achieved by Adobe's flash killer LiveMotion 2. Great book!
