Summary: A Fab book!
Review: This book is Fab. I was told by a friend that it was a good book, and I thought I would se what it was like. I never fully realized what potential drugs had to ruin lifes. You hear stories, but never witness them. "Junk" made me realize how close you could be to ruining your life, and that we all need to appreciate what we have more. Tar and Gemma's relationship lasts for a few years, even thought it ends, they had a fab time, and they stuck with each other throughout the tough times in life, shows how we all need to be in our life, close companionships. It made me wonder, why would anyone take heroin? Why? If it is this bad, why? Then I realized, you just don't know what you are letting yourself in for when you first try.

Review: This book is great. It was originally publishes as Smack, so don't think of it as sequel. Its just under a different name. I first read it under the title Smack, and have since gone through numerous copies. This book is true-to-life. If you want a good tue-to-life read, try this.

Summary: Required reading for older teens/young adults?
Review: This portrayal of the life of the urban runaway speaks to young adults in their own language. Widely critized (by people who had not read it!) after winning the Carnegie Medal for its frank and open discussion of street life it is a book about choices. The characters in the book never had a choice (they are mostly based on real people). You, the reader, still have time to make a decision about life. This is one of Burgess's best books. I have met him professionally and it is very easy to see his ability to speak to kids on their terms.

Summary: Read this great book!
Review: We have read `Junk` in our English lessons. After having read an extract from this book I thought it was a bad book. It is only about running away, taking drugs, dying or coming back home at the last moment. But with every page I read it got better and better. Particulary I like the love story of Gemma and Tar. Although she doesn't love him the friendship between them has something interesting and special. It is sad when Gemma only thinks about herself and forgets Tar, but it is so beautiful if they are together, so that it makes you forget their problems a little bit.
Another good thing is that the book is written in a special way. Each chapter is written from another point of view. So one story is told from different points of view.

So I only can say: Read this book. You won't regret it.

Summary: trainspotting jr
Review: When I first read junk i thought that it was a good if not great look at children and heroin. Then I read trainspotting and noticed that not only had Melvin Burgess stolen his idea of heroin addiction off of the scottish author but he had also stolen the disconnected writing style used by Welsh. If you want a kids read, read junk, if however you want an adult look at addiction read an original book like Junky or Trainspotting. Junk is a n enjoyable read but the characters are too tame to provoke a true emotional response.
