Rating: Summary: A Clinical Dissection of Moore's Dishonesty Review: Any objective reader of this book will be appalled at the lengths to which Moore goes to distort historical events and leave unwitting movie viewers with impressions that are demonstrably false. The most brilliant chapter of the book is a systematic, clinical dissection of "Bowling for Columbine." The authors show how timelines were distorted, bits and pieces of unrelated speeches were spliced together to display Charleton Heston in the most unflattering light, and games were played with camera angles and voice overs. Michael Moore is big, fat, and white. He is not, however, stupid. He is an intellectually dishonest, evil, anti-American propagandist. The authors join liberal columnists Hitchens and Cohen in exposing Moore for the scoundrel he truly is. This book probably should be a supplemental reading in a college filmmaking or journalism course. Not as an example of what to do, but as an example of how powerful media can be in the hands of a skillful malefactor.
Rating: Summary: Jeremy J. Mazza Review: as a fan of large white men, i have to say that i am offended by this book. it makes no effort to point out the many fat white men that have made a significant impact on our nation's history. grover cleveland, a man of considerable girth, was responsible for reshaping this nation through his highly regarded yet considerably maligned addition of the "obesity clause" to the US charter. Herbert Hoover, another hulk of a man, extended this clause to include non-citizens. and what of babe ruth? a fat man that changed baseball forever.
it would seem that for all of the plump white folk of this nation, many are capable of great feats. it is when they lose their girth that they become keen on hatred and destruction. take subway's jared for example: mild mannered fat guy becomes raving homocidal maniac. all because he starting eating those delcious, evil sandwiches.
keep eating, michael. finish off the parliment building if need be. we can, must, and shall have a fatter america. otherwise, the terrorists have truly won. kerry 08'
Rating: Summary: This is sure to put Michael Moore on the run Review: but most of the rebuttals in the book have been dealt with either through the internet or magazine/newspaper articles. So, if you're an internet nut, you may not read anything new - it's not like we don't know how full of it Michael Moore is anyway. But, what I did find new (and then some) was Moore's lazy antics (that cost him job after job) and phony self-described "every man" victim game mentality (where he blames his failures and defeats on his opposition) and his lavish limousine leftist life-style. Hardy and Clarke nailed Moore so badly, he's not likely to recover. Everything in this book is rock solid. Point-by-point, from Moore's movies and books and website and apologists, he's taken down! What's especially amusing is the satirical tone the book is written in. It made for an easy and compelling read. For instance, based on Moore's utter predictability, Hardy and Clarke write a review on Fahrenheit 9/11 without viewing the film! After watching Moore's propagandic mockumentary their review hit him right on the nose.
Rating: Summary: The previous 'reviews' are phoney Review: Check out the structure, spelling, punctuation on the previous 'reviews.'
Real-world reveiwers don't have the time to spend on Amazon reviews so anything that would run to the lengths of the previous reviews would be replete with errors. These reviews are clean, manicured, phoney.
These were written either by the 'author' or by an agent.
Rating: Summary: Lacking in Depth and Originality Review: Clarke and Hardy are so used to buying into the fascist propaganda of the Bush Regime, they forgot to employ the elements of credible research and simple truth-telling. One of their masters, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, indicated that since the American people are lied to all the time, it is okay for him and his ilk to continue in that tradition. Can you imagine the contempt they must have for the average U.S. citizen? Perhaps, Rumsfeld is correct in his assessment after all since the Republicans easily won the Presidency and added to their majority in Congress in the 2004 election. Actually, I believe that H.L. Mencken was closer to the truth when he quipped, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." We have become a very intellectually lazy people.
Rating: Summary: Reveals Moore as a filmmaker, not a documentarian. Review: David T. Hardy and Jason Clarke have helped set in motion what I predict will be the ultimate downfall of M. Moore.
Half of those reading this will cheer, the other half are certainly jeering..."Red Blue difference right"? Let's hope not. It's to the latter group (and those on the fence) I'll address this review.
This book, while certainly biased against Moore, appeals to human reason and our natural allergy to hypocrisy, deceit, and slander in opening up vectors to attack Moore. The basic assumptions it attacks are summarized in this widely-held belief: "Michael Moore is a documentarian activist, he exposes corruption, greed, thievery, and power-systems that have gone awry (be they business or government) on film".
This book proves in inarguable and exhaustive detail how untrue that basic assumption about the man is. In fact, this expose brings to light the irony in that assumption by proving in fact that: Michael Moore is an ultra-capitalist filmmaker who would (and has) go to any length to create successful movies.
That's more than mere hyperbole, consider the following:
Moore was born and raised in the white "bedroom town" of Davison, MI, NOT the poor and disenfranchised Flint, MI. where unemployment (at 4.6%) is 1/3rd that of it's urban neighbor, and, incedentally, less than one half of one percent of Davison is African American. He's hardly the "boy from the hood" as he so often purports to be.
In Bowling for Columbine Moore villified Charlton Heston, insinuating that immediately after the Columbine massacre, the NRA held a rally in nearby Denver. Absolutely false. In fact, it was an annual meeting, and according to the bylaws of the organization, was too late to cancel. However, what he does neglect to mention, is that the entire meeting was gutted of all festivities. Only the necessary business of the NRA was tended to.
In addition, the speech Charleton Heston delivered in B. for C. was grafted from a speech delivered pre-Columbine! When viewing B. for C., it's impossible not to be outraged at the audacity of Heston when he energetically starts in with "...from my cold, dead, hands" - well, in fact, this speech was delivered after being presented an award at an NRA function in North Carolina!
Ugh, I'm sitting here with the book, and just now realizing it would take me an entire night to cover at least the basics of what makes Moore such a repugnant character. The deception of "Roger and Me", the criminal innacuracies and downright lies contained in "Stupid White Men" and "Dude, Where's my Country", the slander and "special effects" in "Bowling for Columbine"...Suffice it to say, you should read this book if:
You think Moore is a great American, and can't understand how anyone can see different. Or,
You despise Moore, and crave Tractor-Truck-sized amounts of ammunition to prove what a complete and utter liar, hypocrite, and vile man he truly is.

Rating: Summary: Stupid White Moore Review: First, let me be honest and confess that I am no fan of Michael Moore. I find him obnoxious and arrogant. I have to admit, however, he is a very gifted film-maker. It is difficult to remain unmoved upon watching one of his "documentaries," because he is rarely (if ever) objective. The same could be said of the authors of this book. One cannot help but know their agenda upon reading the title. (One critic has already pointed out that one of the authors has ties to the NRA.) Despite this, however, they make just as compelling an argument as Moore does in his films. The main difference is that while Moore has the advantage of influencing emotion through audio and visual stimuli, I believe they do a better job of supporting most of their assertions with facts (One has only to view the original footage of Charlton Heston's NRA speeches to see that they have been edited in "Columbine"). Having said this, it is important to note that some assertions of the authors, they admit, are based loosely on Moore's prior work and the authors' own opinions (critique of Fahrenheit 9/11). Moore, they contend, is guilty of this, only to a greater extent. He actually alters chronology to fit his thesis (Reagan's visit to Flint, for example). Their writing style leaves much to be desired, but the intent of the book is not to produce a literary masterpiece. They simply want to refute Moore's assertions. They do this by presenting their arguments in a point-by-point critique of Moore and his work. If you have already made up your mind about this book without ever picking it up, then I would not recommend it. The book is not going to change your mind. If, however, you want the alternative to Moore's assertions, by all means pick up a copy. I encourage you to compare the arguments and decide for yourself.
Rating: Summary: Bravo! Bring the boy down a notch! Review: I never liked Michael Moore, he seemed sleazy and stupid the way his "Documentaries" were represented.
The fact that he has created such a cult following is disturbing, as well as the realization that his "facts" rarely come into question.
I highly suggest this great book which brings down the Leftist Icon down a few pegs.
Rating: Summary: Excellently shreds the Moore myth Review: Let me just say from the start - I despise Michael Moore, really, really loathe the man. There, I said it. I don't even own a firearm, but I utterly detested his leftwing propaganda railing against the NRA and Charlton Heston, as though they were the source of all the bloodshed on American streets. Wake up, liberal idiots! The murder rate in Chicago alone is tied directly to gangs and drugs, and none of those gangstas and pushers belongs to the NRA. I despise Moore for how he abused an invitation into Heston's home to mock him and attempt to reinvent Heston as some cold-blooded racist. And I despise Moore for taking the knee-jerk liberal Democrat/Green position in response to President Bush's policies. Moore is one of those liberal idiots who just make me mad. But it's even worse that he has the financial backing to spread his garbage around through his crockumentaries. Thankfully, folks like David Hardy and Jason Clarke cared enough about Moore's constant campaign of hate-filled lies to do something about it. I first read Hardy's excellent in-depth analysis of Moore on the internet. He and Clarke debunked Bowling for Columbine scene by scene, revealing it to be carefully constructed fraud. And Hardy cared to go even further, examining what makes Moore ... Moore. The spot-on psychological observation is that Moore is a self-loathing narcissist. Sounds contradictory, but in our complex society there seems to be a never-ending supply of pathologies. America created Michael Moore and there seems to be a lot of people like him. They hate themselves because they're fat, ugly, untalented, whatever, and with a little egging on by their peers they are driven to become little Hitlers, taking the nearest soapbox and railing against the successful people, till their rants attract enough attention that they become celebrities themselves. So Michael Moore became the filthy rich capitalist he once despised, raking in money from his "books" and "documentaries," his ego fuelled by adoring Moorephiles. And yet he still hates himself. I don't blame him, I would also hate myself if I were Michael Moore.
Rating: Summary: ... Unlike the authors? Review: Maybe in their follow-up they can provide the other half of the truth they neglected here.
