Rating: Summary: A great eye opener to the tricks being used on you. Review: This book outlines examples of tricks used to persuade you to buy or think a particular way. The tricks are taken from real life examples, frequently backed up by summaries of more scientific trials. It will change the way you think about many sales type experiences. If you choose to employ these tricks remember to deal honestly with people so that you can maintain the relationship beyond the pay-off for your sales trick. The more responsible and effective reason for reading this book is to understand what people have just done to you so that you can decide if you want to maintain the relationship in the light of what they did.
Rating: Summary: A Science of Persuasion?! Believe it. Review: I purchased this book because it was listed as Amazon.com's top business book. I had no idea an entire science was devoted to how people are influenced. I devoured the book in a week, and went looking for more (found a related site called influenceatwork where Cialdini is featured). This is a fantastic book that changed the way I think about human relationships, personal power, and persuasion.
Rating: Summary: Y2k explained Review: I learnt more about Y2k reading this book than from any of the more 'conventional' sources. Check out 'pluralistic ignorance'. Y2k has failed to conjure up any of the weapons of influence except 'scarcity' - it's the most potent weapon and yet it is also feared the most. We tried to fix Y2k by persuading people with logic, Cialdini shows how ineffective that is when programming humans instead of computers!
Rating: Summary: Good explanation of how to get people to skip over through Review: Here's part of one of the blurbs on the back of the book: "With more than one quarter of a million copies sold worldwide, _Influence_ has established itself as the most important book on persuasion ever published. In it, distiguished psychologist Robert B. Cialdini, Ph.D., explains..." Explains what? Well, he explains why the above blurb was written that way! He's established a social proof that it's a good book, and also established his great authority. Speaking as a regular person on the street, who is not being paid to say this (really!) I declare that it is indeed an interesting read
Rating: Summary: Dr. Cialdini brings warmth & itelligence to a vital subject. Review: Few subjects affect our daily lives as much as the whole business of influence- what we buy, how we vote and even whom we marry. "Influence" makes entertaining sense of the subject, whether we're trying to guard against unwanted influence or exert a positive influence on something or someone important to us. The book is thoughtful, scholarly, yet wonderfully unacademic in it's presentation of ideas that impact us daily. A must read for anyone not a hermit living in a cave.
Rating: Summary: Helps me in my work as a sales representative. Review: all contents were motivational. They told me to stopthinking the way that I always doand, start taking control of my situation.
Rating: Summary: Very, very Interesting Review: I was assigned this book for a graduate class and I have already thanked the professor for introducing me to the book. It is very useful, interesting, entertaining, and thought provoking. You won't look at an adverstisement or sales situation the same again after reading this book. How's that for persuasion?
Rating: Summary: The book was excellent to read and usefull for everyday life Review: Before reading the book Influences by Caildini I had a vague knowledge about the different techniques people use to influence ones responses. The techniques that the author shows you help ones understanding about persuasion. The book is written for the reader that is neutral, meaning, the one who uses persuasion techniques or those who want to shelter themselves from them. If you are a person who uses persuasion in you job or one that is frequently solicited, this book is for you. This is the best peace of influential reading published to date.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME! BUY this book Review: The reference on understanding how to get what you want from others
Rating: Summary: TRY and put this book down! Review: Fantastic book that has an interesting history in my family... My brother was assigned to read for college class - - He passed it on to me - - I lent to a business associate and it was never returned. Found it here on Amazon FIVE YEARS LATER and having re-read it, realize how timeless these concepts really are. If you sell, market, or buy anything for a living, you will be enthralled by this book. Very engaging, entertaining style permeates each chapter. A great book to pass along with confidence.
