Rating: Summary: Fascinating - timeless - direct and to the point. Review: Since I read my first Cialdini book 10 years ago I've read everything he's written since, including his interviews. It is still a benchmark into the study of how humans interact and respond to others. Being involved in sales and marketing for over twenty years, I had an excellent laboratory to try out some of the concepts in the book. They are frighteningly effective. A must read for sales and marketing oriented individuals to help you communicate better with your customers and clients. I worked my way up to Senior President of Sales and Marketing by constantly learning. My company now uses Neurosync goal oriented and behavior modification software, something I only wish we had 20 years ago to motivate and instill these principals. This book is also an effective self defense weapon against those unscrupulous individuals who will take advantage our natural responses to influencing events.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: An powerful guide for all those who want to learn how to influence others, and avoid being influenced. Useful tool for designing marketing campaigns, as well as for every day life.
Rating: Summary: A mouse can roar with 'The Psychology of Persuasion.' Review: The chapter on commitment and consistency is worth the price of the book. A fascinating explanation of how and why we do things and where the manipulation happens, along with practical defenses. I was trying to understand why I was committing to doing things and then regretting afterwards yet still doing them. After the commitment and consistency chapter, I understand what it was all about and I got the knowledge to ensure I keep control over my life and time and not give away things so precious. The book is filled with insights which will arm you for the countless intensional and unintensional manipulations that go on in the world. I've learned so many things from this author, like using neurosync mesmeric inference and mnemonic evocation to constantly reinforce my goals and behavior changes without any conscious effort. A life changing book you must read.
Rating: Summary: Telling all my friends how to say no.................... Review: An excellent book, recommended reading for anyone living in today's world
Rating: Summary: Insightful and persuasive collection Review: It is thrilling awareness of mind-set throughout the whole reading. The presented meaningful examples in the chapter turned out to be a wake up call to one's experience.
Rating: Summary: Intro psych duldrums? No way! Review: I read this book last year for an intro Psych class and I must say that it was simply incredible. Cialdini's style is not only engaging, but it can speak to someone who's not familiar with any sort of jargon. His ability to apply concepts central to social psychology to everyday situations -- and help us better understand our own actions -- is nothing short of amazing. A real winner!
Rating: Summary: it's all about trusting your gut Review: I loved this book. However, before I made the purchase, I thought this book was going to leave feeling more paranoid and less trusting of people. Well, I did purchase it anyhow, and read it all in three days. I couldn't put it down. It was light and easy to read. Each chapter describes a tactic used by compliance professionals (such as myself, by the way) and the author gives personal anecdotes on how he himself or someone else was fooled. Then at the end of each chapter, he explains how to not make the same mistake. The greatest part about this book is that the author doesn't talk down to you and concludes that trusting yourself is your best defense. P.S. after reading this book I realized that these customer comments fall nicely into the author's social proof technique.
Rating: Summary: Worthwhile Reading Review: A fun and interesting look at human psychology in the short term.
Rating: Summary: A Bastard of a Book! Review: Yes that's right, once you start it you can't put it down and you realise just how many times you have been taken for a ride.Excuse the pun but looking back on my life, it is the most influential book, I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: A great book -- wonderful examples Review: This was an outstanding book, full of meaningful examples and logically presented information. This is probably the most useful book on persuasion I have read, and it is useful to both the consumer and the seller, the employee and the manager. It's packed with valuable insights. Read it.
