Rating: Summary: are you getting tricked into buying something? Review: Why do you buy the things you do? This book shows you the ruthless tactics that marketers use to get you to buy their products. It was a real eye opener. For example: I used to think that the toys stores were out of stock of their best toys during December, because of huge demand. Now I realize that they are doing this on purpose. Why? Because they know the kids won't forget about this toy and they will come back in January to buy it when they get it "back in stock". Meanwhile during the holiday season their parents have to buy them "something" so they make even more money. So when you see them advertising a new toy in November know that they won't have it in by December because they want to trick you. Read about many more tricks they are using on you and how you can overcome them by reading this great book. Zev Saftlas, Author of Motivation That Works: How to Get Motivated and Stay Motivated
Rating: Summary: Excellent book on understanding Persuasion Review: Dr. Cialdini has written a masterpiece. He describes the "6 weapons (tools) of influence" and how to counteract them. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been manipulated or just wants to learn about persuasion.
Rating: Summary: Worthwhile Read Review: This is the book to buy on this subject. Unlike Hogan's book of the same title, this one delivers.
Rating: Summary: Defend against external manipulation Review: I am a sales and marketing professional who has studied this subject for some years. Cialdini has done a great job helping people identify when they are being manipulated and how to defend against it. First he shows studies that PROVE you are being manipulated even when you think you are enough smart to avoid it. Next he described the countermeasures, which almost always consists of understanding that this is a trick, so you need not respond the way you have been taught as good manners. This is the best book for the non-sales person in the world of unscrupulous business-driven zealots and con artists. If you want to know how to honorably sell in a positive way, I recommed The book on selling by Jolles.
Rating: Summary: Book you must read! Review: Persuasion is a very interesting knowledge & skill. If you run a business or a salesman, you must read this book. If you are not, you should read this book as well. It's an excellent reference material. Very easy to read and understand, the author has done an outstanding job to depict you the picture of how persuasion works and how to use it to influnence people's mind. It also covers lots of scenarios and examples to demonstrate how we being influenced. No doubt this is one of the collection for knowledge seekers.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: One of those rare books that will actually have you looking at the world differently. It takes basic concepts of influence which may seem simple or obvious on the surface, and explores the depth of the influence to an unimaginable degree. The claims are well-supported and well thought-out, and, at the very least, it will give you some things to think about. Read this book; you won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: A very good and enjoyable read Review: There are only a few books that after reading, you will really find them useful and understandable, and Influence is one of them. (The others are 7 Habbits of Highly Effective People, Good to Great). The book is full of research studies that can back up the six 'weapons' of influence, while at the same time is written in a style enjoyable and easy-to-remember. Recommend to all people, no matter you are a salesman, marketer, manager, or even parents.....everyone. Note that there is another book called Influence (4th Ed) by the same author. The name is a little bit different (also different ISBN) but they are the SAME book with revised photos and foreword only. I thought they were 2 differents ones.
Rating: Summary: Mediocrity for the Mediocre Review: This book, while good for those looking for narratives and the occasional bit of history, is somewhat lacking when it comes to application. There are many other -good- books out there on persuasion... I considered this one a vauge and confusing waste of time.
Rating: Summary: Allow Me To Influence You To Buy This Book! Review: I first read this book waaaaay back in 1987 (Fear not, the information is far from outdated today, thanks to periodic updated versions) and was incredibly inspired. This book not only shows you how you are influenced to do things that you later wonder, "Why did I do THAT?" but it also shows you how to aviod being influenced by the teachniques revealed. Remember that one magazine advertisement you saw, the one that got you to think of their product and got you to buy it? (Perhaps again...and again...and again?) Sure you have, a thousand times, for a thousand different products. Well, this book reveals the HOW and WHY that ad worked on you! And remember that teacher, or other authority figure, who instructed you to do something, and even though you were confused by it or thought the person made an error, you did it anyway? The HOW and WHY that worked is also revealed here! And have you ever passed on something, but learned lots of other people were going for it, so you went for it too? Yep, the HOW and WHY of that is in here as well! In fact, EVERYTHING that has ever influenced you is revealed in some form or another in this book. Sounds like I'm being hyperbolic, I know, but trust me, it's true. This book is a MUST for anyone interested in NLP, Sales, Public Speaking, or trying to get that stubborn someone to agree to do soemthing for you. So take it from a guy who's gone through almost THREE copies of this book from all the re-reading that I've done, you WILL feel that you have gotten more than your money's worth, and you may even be echoing my review with one of your own. That's My Opinion, But You're Welcome To It!
Rating: Summary: I think you should read this Review: I was very dissapointed by this average book.Persuasion is another marketing trick and actually a branch of SELLING. Instead of calling his book The Power of selling which immidiately puts the author in competition with others, he smartly decided to start Moutnain Dew, instead of Sprite. All this praise from Warren Buffett makes me think that Warren himself is a ripp off artist who is only interested in helping the author, who happens to be his friend. The book is actually not defined well, but the cover will persuede you to buy it. The author is nothing but a smart salesman, with average writing abilities. Do not look for business or dating tips here. I am sorry but public opinion is so easily manipulated in America. And you will buy this average book, because you do not know that it is actually selling tips, organized badly and backed by studies on animals. Sorry,a cowsalesman will give you a better review of persuasion tricks.
