Rating: Summary: Written by a real social psychology expert Review: When you glance at the cover of this book, you might think 'oh, another pop psych book ....' But don't be fooled. This book may be interesting to read, but it is also real social psychology by a well respected professor. I use it in my social psych seminar, and I recommend it to both psych students and general readers.
Rating: Summary: Brief Opinion Review: Cialdini's book is a must read for all those looking to begin or expand their knowledge of basic and underlying marketing principles used by people and businesses in all areas. Rating: Summary: An Absolute Must-Read Review: INFLUENCE: The Psychology of Persuasion is quite possibly the most systematic study of the tools of persuasion ever written. It contains many, many examples from everyday life of the techniques used by Compliance Professionals to effect behavioral change. At the conclusion of each chapter, Dr. Cialdini provides insight into how to recognize when these tools are being used against us. He then offers guidance on avoiding unwillingly falling prey to those trained to employ persuasion techniques in the attainment of their own, often selfish, goals. The writing style is highly enjoyable and the lessons in the book thereby easily digested. The book is well researched and thoughtfully presented, and its instructive style is sure to have a profound effect on the activities of anyone who is fortunate enough to experience it.
Rating: Summary: please don't read this book if.... Review: please don't read this book if....you don't want to make more money, get more people to do what you want, and find out who is tricking you into buying their products. It deserves at least a 10 stars but amazon only allows for 5. Read, Study & Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Reveals the Hidden Dimension of Media Manipulation Review: This book is usually marketed toward people in advertising as a powerful guide to influencing the minds of the target group. Ironic, because the author boldly denounces the use of these tactics in marketing and aims to educate the common consumer so they can recognize and resist these common psychological ploys. Anyways, reading this book revealed for me a hitherto invisible dimension of subtle manipulations occuring everywhere in my environment. You will never look at any sort of advertising - be it print, television, radio - again the same way, and you will give profound thanks to the author for pointing out the sinister tactics frequently employed by those who want something from you (usually money). After reading this book and digesting the material for a few weeks I began to notice that not only trained marketers but everyone seems to use these tactics in everyday interpersonal relations. It is almost as if we have an innate, yet unconscious, understanding of how to apply these principles to manipulate others into giving us what we want. I was so intrigued that I wrote a paper on this phenomenon for a critical thinking class. Utterly fascinating!
Rating: Summary: I would have given it 6 stars ! Review: First let me admit that I'm a Marketer which makes me one of the compliance practitioners that Dr. Cialdini talks about. I learned about this book from Charlie Munger (Warren Buffett's partner in Berkshire Hathaway) who mentioned it in a talk he gave at the Harvard Law school. Mr. Munger mentioned he learned about this book too late in life. Boy, do I agree. While I've used many of the techniques Dr. Cialdini describes (and been abused by many as well), I never understood why certain things worked and others didn't. This was an incredible eye opener for me.
Rating: Summary: a psy ops manual Review: the book exposes how marketers regularly exploit your weakenssnes as a human being. read it to become a stone-cold curmudgeon who shan't fall prey to such ploys again.
Rating: Summary: Click, Whirrrr!!! Review: I was fascinated by this book. I bought three others on the same general topic and THIS is the one that was the most helpful and interesting. I am now using many of the things presented every day! Why? Because it is thorough yet topical with great examples. It is well written, too.
Rating: Summary: Great book...but not 100% effective Review: If you've ever given in to a pushy salesman, you'll love this book. Learn all their dirty tricks from someone who actually sat through the dirty salesman training courses. I have to admit, this wasn't 100% effective for my needs, though. I bought this book so I could learn how to hypnotize women and trick them in to going on a date with me. But, contrary to the title on the book, that informaition was not in there.
Rating: Summary: Using the book already Review: You will read this book. You will read this book. You will read this book. I repeat, you will read this book. You will read this book.
